Forums - Nintendo - Smash Bros. Direct tonight Will Not Reveal Release Date.

Nintendo needs something big for the holiday season... If it isn't Smash Bros, then what? Smash Bros will probably be out sometime in November.

Current gaming platforms - Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, New 3DS, PC

I fully expect Nintendo will just jerk off the audience yet again with a waste of time boring infomercial describing game features in the most boring direct way possible, and not give anything actually useful like a release date.

with the dynamic nature of release dates (especially from Nintendo as you pointed out yet somehow still seemed to overlook), it pretty much does. Nintendo could make a guess now and say what day they think the game will be coming and then move it back a couple times, each time pissing people off, or they could just say the region when the game will be done and announce a more specific date when we get closer to release and not piss people off.

PS: There are a lot of factors that go into making a game, especially one as polished and content filled as the stuff Sakurai makes. Add onto that the fatigued condition of Sakurai himself and there are a lot of wild cards when it comes to the specific date.

The 'dynamic nature of release dates" isn't like a sudden blizzard or something that just happens. Nintendo's chronic problem with it IS what I'm complaining about.

Like I said, there are a lot more Wild Cards in game development than you are acknowledging...isn't that all the more reason to announce a release window instead of a release date and avoid pissing people off?

EDIT: @ the guy above me: Its funny that some people get all hot under the collar for release dates. I actually prefer seeing the features of a game, moreso than seeing a date. ;)

Their best move, in that case, would be to wait to have the direct until they know when it's coming out.

...but why? what is wrong with keeping hype up and keeping people excited for Smash Bros? Why do we need an exact date to be able to enjoy seeing new characters and features of the game? I honestly don't understand this mentality. Its like people are thinking only "when will Wii U start selling better" instead of thinking about how fun Smash is going to be. Why would anyone think this is a good way to look at things? If Nintendo shows some cool newcomers and stages, I will be happy...thats what it takes for me. Isn't that the way it should be? Should people be more excited about what the game actually holds than some number that has zero effect on their overall enjoyment of that game? I don't understand! Please walk me through your thought process, it neither makes sense logically nor emotionally to me...

If Nintendo release three retail games this year, it will be because they delayed DKC:TF. And that's IF they don't delay Smash. You would expect them to be able to give a release date to one of the only two new games they are putting out in an entire year when they are a first party developer for a console.

I for one don't like seeing all the content of a game in advance to 'keep myself excited.' All that does is spend excitement that should come from the game well in advance. I'll be less excited to learn about this stuff from a video six months ahead of launch than I would be to find it organically in the game. It's a poor substitute for having more than three first-party retail games a year on a console that gets almost no third party support.

How lame, oh well! They are clearly saving it for e3

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

There's no way they are dumb enough to delay it to 2015. Even Nintendo knows better.
