Forums - Gaming Discussion - Microsoft: "This year the most anticipated games will be exclusive to xbox"

You know, after the last few days, this doesn't sound so crazy anymore. Here's the list I can put together:

Left 4 Dead (Recently announced as 360 console exclusive, a la Bioshock)
APB (Crackdown MMO, won several of Game of the Show awards at this year's GDC, came out of nowhere and seems to have wowed everyone)
Ninja Gaiden II
Fable II
Gears of War II
Too Human
GTA IV Exclusive content (yes it's just added content, but it sounds like it's real episodic content and not crap, and it's added content to the biggest game of the year for any system)

I still think this roster is superior:

Killzone 2
Resistance 2
Metal Gear Solid 4
Little Big Planet
Gran Turismo 5 and/or FF XIII, likely one of the two will land this year

Still though.... two months ago I would have given this to the PS3 without issue, but now I'm not so sure. It's close enough that neither group of console owners should be disappointed.

@ultraslick, I like your thinking

Anyway, why does nobody think of inFamous or Haze as major exclusives. infamous is made by the people who made sly cooper, which was good. Haze is made by Free Radical, the studio behing TimeSplitters, so why does everyone assume it is going to be rubbish?

Also, there is always the chance of the Getaway, Eight Days and Afrika coming out this year. They could have kept everything secret, before showing them all again at E3, we can hope

The latter games you mention may be good (Afrika is my most anticipated PS3 game), but in a larger context I don't think they matter all that much. Heck, my personally most anticipated 360 title is Castle Crashers, but you won't see me listing that as a major exclusive.

Those last three in particular won't be major exclusives. Infamous and Haze may be, but all evidence suggests that Haze is a timed exclusive, so..

I think you're talking quality and not actual sales significance, Munkeh, in which case Echo Chrome and Afrika are my personally most anticipated titles this year for either the 360 or PS3. But if we're talking ramifications on hardware adoption, I don't really think the games discussed here are particularly relevant, while I specifically attempted to stick with console pushers only in my list above.

WOW.
after reading everything about APB just now, I am stunned.

Thank god someone is doing something like that, I am hugely anticipating that game now, far more than any other game on the 360's lineup.

whew... I haven't been this excited about a game, (that came out of nowhere) in quite a while. Bravo is all i can say. i wonder if it will have a monthly fee?

@Bod

if GT5 & FFXIII don't make it

the lists are equal I feel

BUT

if FFXIII & GT 5 make & keeping in mind How much they have sold in their past games

The Ps3 list is much more superior...

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Okay, redoing the list here -- this is specifically intended to be a list of "games that we believe will push hardware adoption" and not just "a list of good games," because most of the games I'm about to list I personally hate and most of the games I actually want for these systems wouldn't make this count in a million years.

360:

Fable 2
Gears of War 2
APB
Left 4 Dead
Ninja Gaiden 2
GTA 4 Exclusive Content
Too Human

PS3:

Final Fantasy XIII
Gran Turismo 5
Resistance 2
Killzone 2
Metal Gear Solid 4
Little Big Planet

Does that seem like a fair list? Am I missing something here, or does one of these not deserve its position? If its fair, I'd still give the PS3 the edge (simply because a few of these games, most notably GT5 and FF XIII, are bigger than any of the 360 games individually), but it's not nearly as clear cut a case as it was two months ago.

Many people have been saying for some time now that Sony shot its load last year in order to keep the PS3 from completely falling off the map: they hyped up every game they could in their upcoming 08 roster to keep people from going away. Now MS (and presumably Nintendo at some point? We'll see) are starting to fire their 08 bullets, and while I still do think the PS3 comes out on top in terms of sheer hype and system pushing software, it's not a big difference anymore.

If NEITHER makes it, I'd actually give 360 the edge, as crazy as that sounds.

But I think one of the two will. And if both do, the edge is clearly the PS3's.

What? No Wii list Bod? That's not very fair.

From a sales standpoint Wii Fit, SSBB, and Mario Kart Wii far topple the other lists. From a hardcore gamer standpoint, the PS3 is delivering the most sequels to the most major industry franchises.

If we wanted to divide franchise importance by sales history of the titles, the top 10 biggest exclusives this year would go something like this:

1) Wii Fit
2) GT5
3) Mario Kart Wii
4) Super Smash Bros. Brawl
5) Gears of War 2
6) Metal Gear Solid 4
7) Fable 2
8) Resistance 2
9) Killzone 2
10) Ninja Gaiden 2

Of course, some games should easily outperform their predecessors (Mario Kart, Brawl, Killzone) while others will most likely significantly under-perform theirs (GT5). Still, this isn't a bad rough image of how big each console's game library is this year. It's surprisingly much more balanced than you would think. 3 for Wii, 3 for 360, and 4 for PS3. Wii has the biggest sales titles, but overall fairly equal distribution.

And no, I didn't include 360 games that have PC versions with simultaneous releases (Left 4 Dead, APB), games that most likely won't be big sellers and are new IPs anyway (Too Human, Little Big Planet), or GTAIV for just it's exclusive content. These are just my estimates of the 10 biggest games.

Edit:  FFXIII isn't even in the running for an 08 release.  It's been repeatedly said it won't be out till holiday 08 for Japan at the earliest

You're right, Naz, of course. But I didn't include the Wii because:

1) It did not recieve any major new announcements at GDC besides (fairly predictable) release date, while the 360 had APB unveiled, GTA IV exclusive content dated much sooner than most anticipated, Gears of War 2 officially unveiled, and Left 4 Dead being confirmed as a 360 console exclusive.

2) PS3 is largely seen as the system with the most major exclusives this year

In short, my post was a "360 exclusives are actually quite strong this year" thing, and comparisons to the PS3 lineup seemed most appropriate for proving that point.

for FF XIII, even only being out in Japan by the end of the year (will it come out in English in Hong Kong at the same time?), it will still sell over 1m copies, and it will considerably boost PS3 hardware there, so it will still have quite a large impact, even if only in Japan

The 360 lineup is still a termite compared to the ps3's at this point.

Even though you have one proven AAA titles(gears 2) everything else is a new IP which is not proven.

Im sorry what?

Like I said NG:B ranked as the 31st best game ever. NG hardly an unproved Ip.

Fable scored 85% hardly an unproved IP

Banjo Kazooie 1+2 92% and 91% hardly unproved.

Too human? Hm yup an unproved IP. The developers however have a track record for the last 3 games of 82%, 90%, 85%. So it's reasonable to assume it will at least be around the 80% mark I feel.

You want to talk about unproved IPs? Killzone ... First game got huge hype (like this one) and was a HUGE dissappointment, 73% average review score. Their other console game (Shellshock Nam '67) received 60%. Why are we placing so much faith in these developers? Oh they made a good portable game? yea 79% is quite good... but it's on a portable not a console. Seriously this is a developer that is yet to make a game to score over 80%.

LBP - Unproved in everyway. The teams very first real game.

Oh and FF13 isn't coming this year (not even in Japan) Bod so yea the lists are reasonably equal.

@Munkeh111 pretty certain Haze is merely a timed exclusive for PS3.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.
