Forums - Nintendo Discussion - wii u sells 50k more units in 2014 so far then same time frame 2013

Vita is up nearly 300k same time frame in comparison, and Vita outsold the Wii U last year by about 20k iirc.

That's actually really bad considering 3D World legs should've carried into the new year + big first party release (DK) that last year didn't have.

So as title says. I think with big hitters still to come ( you know the ones mk8, zelda, smash, x and countless indies etc) this is great news so far!

Thoughts? Agree? Disagree?

Source was vgcharts sales data by the way.

What numbers did you use?

Seems down YoY to me...

http://www.vgchartz.com/tools/hw_yoy.php?reg=Global&start_year=2011&end_year=2014&console=WiiU

EDIT: There is a big discrepancy between VGC's YOY graph and the weekly charts.

Weekly charts 2014 YTD: 527,334

YOY graph 2014 YTD: 451,278

Why a 76,056 diff?

My 8th gen collection

Well 50k does not seem like at look, but expect this 2014 to be a good year for the wiiu. 3rd quarter should be a good timeframe to release some big games.

Weekly charts 2014 from Week Jan 04 to Week March 22 = 451,278. YOY 2014 graph to date = 451,278.

No diff that I can see, unless I've missed something.

Weekly charts 2013 from Week Jan 05 to Week March 23 = 403,683, so yes it's up by about 48k.

(Edit) - YOY 2013 seems way off the weekly charts - 640k YoY versus 468k weekly, unless I got my math wrong?

Regardless, YOY 2013 graph cannot be used for comparison at the moment, though, because it includes another week (to 30th March). That was another 64k or so, and I don't see next week matching that, so by the end of the month I think it will be very close to even.

@ OP - My thoughts are that 50k is not much in the grand scheme of things, especially as it is all based on estimates anyway. Will just have to see whether the upcoming games will make a difference.

Is it 64k for this week last year? Also to break even it would mean ww sales of 14k which aint going to happen.

Im Hoping for 50k this up coming chart update for global sales

I mean any improvement is good, but that's not a whole lot. if you look at their past sales you will see that they normally get some level of bump to their console sales almost every time they release a big new game trouble is the bump is never really large it never lasts more than a week or 2 how do they get that momentum to stick?

Check the link below. (note to Admins: it's not really porn please don't ban me!)

Here is the problem with Wii U

The Wii became irrelevant very quickly to the core gamers about 3 years after release as the other consoles became better for the core gamers. Sure it kind of limpered along for a couple of extra years before finally being replaced by Wii U. The failure of Wii to core gamers meant, not too many enthusiastic early adopters this time around driving up the demand and causing any kind of mass market adoption frenzy (like the Wii caused).

To make things worse, the Wii U being "watched" by those core gamers very quickly entered the irrelevant stage, especially as competing consoles from Microsoft and especially Sony really upped the game.

While Wii U goes largely ignored even as it has still more games than the other 8th gen consoles, it is the future of Wii U that makes it look bleak. The other consoles have tons of games coming and Wii U has just more Mario games.

Unless you have to play Mario games... the Wii U is irrelevant.

50k is nothing. That is just the noise of a corpse farting. Sadly - it is still dead.
