Also for the global PS4/Xb one battle this more than compensates for the UK TF bounce, and it also reduces the gap created by the US TF bounce. So it will be very interesting to see how close the global numbers are. Especially if Sony managed to get supply into more markets than just USA and UK.

I think the US bounce will probably still just give the week to Xb one, but not by much.

Firstly: Yayyyyyy Noctis, welcome back :)

Hardware wise: Very pleased with Vita's hold.  Was genuinely expecting it to go back to ~ 20k before being boosted back to ~30k next week when the games released and maybe even a little higher the week after when Miku releases.  Seems it's well beating that idea, and will end March still up YoY (and April/May/June should be a wash for 2014 winning since there's vastly better software releasing this year.  2013 only really had Toukiden in June and we've got Freedom Wars to counteract that this year).  System could end up being up YoY again if Sony have something to match the slim model later in the year (i.e. price cut.  Although it doesn't really need it at this point).

PS4 drop isn't as steep as I was expecting but it's still doing pretty horribly.  Next week the bundle should help at least.

3DS seems to be hitting its new baseline which... isn't terrible, but isn't great.  Mario Party boost next week should help

WiiU also seems to be hitting baseline.  I was genuinely expecting it to tumble back to 5k again but maybe it'll stay at this level after all.  I hope so.

Software wise:  Incredibe for Dark Souls.  Really.  This IP is just growing and growing in popularity with time; good for them.

Otherwise, the usual.  Great Youkai Watch legs, Level-5 really needed one of their games to truly take off like this so I'm pleased it has (I do still like them, although I wish they'd balance in a bit more home console development again).

GTAV is still the surprise for me every week though.  I can understand getting legs from an anime boosting your visibility but where is this game getting its legs from?  Great word of mouth, by the looks of things.

Kinda shocking to see Battlefield 4 out-legging Yakuza on PS4 as well.  I know Yakuza isn't known for legs, but still.

Soul Sac Delta not having quite the drop I was expecting, but still not great.  Should make 100k at least.  Ar no Surge, sadly, seems like a complete bomba.

Next week is going to be a lot of fun :)

You can't buy a new Wii U without Wii Party U and NSMBU in Japan even if you wanted to, they're bundled with all the new SKUs.

Unless you find some remaining dead stock inventory of the original version or buy used.

About half of the predictions were predicting sellout. Everyone overestimated stock available.

Which after 4 weeks is irrelevamnt.  Its isnt sold out now and it wasnt last week.

Its first 4 weeks are worse than the VIta, the WiiU and the 3DS.  A lot worse.  Nobody expected that.

As I said earlier, it's not doing well. Your post really isn't doing anything but antagnizing others. I don't think many expected PS4 to outdo 3DS or Vita though....

Wow, Nintendo software does really well on Japan, and lousy Ps4 software numbers, I wonder what it takes to get the japanese excited about the console.

By the way:

I think these PS4 weekly sales are going to be "necessary".

My explanation:

Sony knew it was going to be a long time until the actually system sellers (Phantom Pain; Final Fantasy XV etc.) started showing up for the system. Their options were:

- Wait until they're ready; or

- Release as soon as they predict stock situation will be better in the west.

And to be honest, I'd imagine third party publishers wanted them to do the latter.

Games like Battlefield; Tomb Raider; Call of Duty; FIFA etc. squeezed a few extra sales out of being ready at PS4 launch in Japan. Had Sony waited any longer, we'd be approaching the new iterations of these franchises coming out (especially for the yearly ones) and being able to sell them for "full price" wouldn't be justifiable.

So I think Sony released the PS4 at this time literally because they had to, to help appease some third parties and because there was no better time in the foreseeable future.

It's not ideal, and they should've courted more Japanese third parties (get the otaku ghetto of Compile Heart/NIS/Gust/Falcom/Acquire on board sooner rather than later; get Namco porting Gundam sooner rather than later), but in the situation they found themselves in it's all they can do.

They're going to have to weather some abysmal short term sales for, hopefully, a lot of long term goals.

PS4 holding good on no software for Japan. Next week I expect a small boost from MGS.

Vita could well outsell the 3DS weekly, pretty good for a "dead" console.

Who said Vita is dead? (in japan)

I mean dead in general.

So PS4 still tracking significantly behind the WiiU. 434k v 638k (with 4th week sales of 29k v 77k)

Not great. The WiiU dropped significantly from week 6 onwards so it will be interesting to see where the PS4 eventually settles.

To be fair, the WiiU launched during the holidays. If it came out in February then it would see similar sales to PS4.

But yeah, it's not great. PS4 will have a weak 2014 but things will improve in 2015 with Final Fantasy XV, MGSV, and possibly RE7. Like the Vita, I could see the PS4 gaining steam later on as more Japanese developers begin to embrace it.
