Forums - Gaming - Developer: PS 4 VR Headset is BETTER than Oculus Rift. - First Demos : Thief,EVE....

I feel like this is similar to 3D. It's something that's nifty and cool in short bursts but doesn't translate well to home use.

For me, the price would have to be very low for me to dive in. Honestly, 100 (including the camera) would be the sweet spot, however unrealistic that may be. I could see paying a bit more when the system eventually goes down in price but 500 is pretty much the max I'd possibly pay for full experience.

This kind of seems like one of the things the industry wants but the market isn't clamoring for. If Sony intends this to be a niche product that they could make a big profit with solely the device, then great. If they plan on it being a major selling point, I don't think it will work.

I'm so freak'n excited. I've been waiting for this since 2011 when they released the 3d personal viewer.

Lucky you, I've been waiting since the eighties. Along with AI and talking computers.

I'm not meaning for the concept, I mean for the release. Once I saw the 3d personal viewer I thought, well why don't they add six adie and tie it to the right analog. Fallout to the next level.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I think the potential for this is huge. 3D TV and 3D games are something entirely different. Spending 2K+ for a TV that may display 3D ok and may not depending on the technology is asking a bit much. Buying a headset designed specifically for gaming on the other hand and giving possibly an even more Immersive experience is much more realistic. I have never liked the camera based games by themselves, adding VR back like Nintendo started to way back in the day IMO is the next step.

I find the whines hilarious.

God forbid I look foolish laying on the couch with a controller in hand and a headset.

Ohh noes what will people think if they know I own a vr headset. Ohh you fashionistas you.

If it was $100 I would probably skip it, no way that would deliver a decent experience.
They've already stated it will be 1080 lines (no clue on horizontal res yet though) 1000hz 360 degree headtracking and wireless. So less than 400 (excluding camera) is pretty much out. If it actually has dual 1080p screens plus virtual surround sound built in, I could see it launching at 699,-

Don't forget about Occulus. The Sony headset is going to have to stay competitive with that $299-399 price point, even though they're exclusive to different systems.

No way this isn't expensive. Probably will cost more than a PS4!! O_o

If they are confident about it im sure it will be priced ok. Build more sale for less. Shit i almost got that damn 1k sony headset.

If they announce gt7 uses it, this will sale a few units based of that alone.

Thats physical protection! Cmon... how did that virtual boy work for you? Such short memories...

But this is for enjoyment!  Virtual boy?  Computers are too big, we'll never be able to put them in our pockets or anything.

What I'm saying is, let's pretend that technology doesn't evolve.

Its not the same. You have a thing like this that looks and weighs like a pair of glasses? Then it can work. You have a brick in front of your head? Then its not gonna work.

How much do you think that thing weighs? They have been testing the devices for some time now and they have gotten smaller AND lighter throguh the development process.

If I can wear a kevlar hemet, eye protection and NVGs on my head for hours at a time I think a light VR device would be just fine. From just about everything I have seen of the Oculus Rift and now the Sony device I am confident we'll be getting some good VR content very soon.
