Forums - Gaming - Looking like VR is the new gimmick for this gen, will you accept it?

Motion controls aren't really a gimmick, they're a legitimate interface. I think it's mostly just fans of Sony that call it that because they were unsuccessful with it and they want to illogically discredit the companies that used it to beat Sony for over half a decade.

Hard to call it anything but a gimmick when the company that benefited most from it is not even pushing it no more.

Funy part is move was the best of the 3 waggles, but how legitimate is waggle when no one is actually using it this gen.  It prety much accepted it was a fad thats dead, MS big kintic push is its a tv controller.  And Ps camera and kinteic are mostly gameplay streaming devices now.

VR won't be a 'major leap' in playing videogames if isn't commercially viable -- which many of us think it isn't.

I embrace the real reality, not the imaginary one :P. I suggest you do so as well.

the reality that there are a few thousand males spread out over the more developed parts of this globe spending time, alone, on an obscure, inconsequential videogame website?

"But in all seriousness, sales are a reality -- and sales are the focus of this site. We talk about what sells, what doesn't."

Or the reality that some people like talking about videogames in their spare time? (and sometimes when they should work)

I don't think it needs to sell 100 million units to be successful.

Plenty of people are willing to wear giant head sets while playing COD online, so I think over time that issue will fade.

It definitely changes the gaming experience.

Also the industry isn't just 14 year old kids that have to ask mommy or daddy for every piece of game hardware they buy. For plenty of adults, $250-$300 is nothing, that's the price of a cheap tablet.

If the experience is *compelling* enough, then I think there will be people who want to try it.

Now if only everyone thought like you.

Then we would be free to express our excitement for something truly new.

Now some will say "blah blah it's not new blah blah", but it's new for almost everyone that plays games now. Whether its OR, Valve or Morpheus, somehow, SOMEHOW I will be able to play Dark/Demon's Souls with VR. Sounds like the best thing ever to me.

}

If it's properly done, yes, i will support Sony's VR.

If you've been paying attention you would notice that the vast majority of people (might even be everyone) that have used the "gimmick" phrase have been doing it to play down VR in general.

And this playing down of VR coincides with Sony's reveal of VR.

But I totally agree, "aren't really a gimmick, they're a legitimate interface" is spot on :)

I won't buy it, but it's going to find a niche.

As tech gets better and cheaper, more and more people will buy it.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Wow.

I said, "(I) like talking about videogames in (my) spare time". This was a reply to your playing down VR because it won't sell well enough. I also said, "Whether its OR, Valve or Morpheus, somehow, SOMEHOW I will be able to play Dark/Demon's Souls with VR. Sounds like the best thing ever to me."

Welcome to the forum indeed.

Yeah, its a gimmick, looks way too expensive and niche.
