My opinion, if they want to cater "core" gamers they should merge with Steam. If they still want to cater families and "new" players they should merge with Amazon.

Thank you for posting this thread a nice look at Nintendo without bashing the company, posting doom, or saying they need go third Party. I think buying out Capcom is the most logical and saves the name Capcom without destroying it. Nintendo would do it right as well seeing they respect video games more then the other 2 companies and would revive that name Capcom. Also Ryu, Blanka, Guile, Chun Li on Smash Would be AWESOME!!!!!

You guys have totally crazy expectations that will simply never come true. Iwata was talking about buying some development studios. Studios like:
- Platinum (Bayonetta 2)
- indieszero (NES remix)
- Camelot (Mario Gold: World Tour) (they wanted to go to PC at some point)

There's other studios as well. In no way was he talking about doing a merger with Sony or Microsoft or buying a huge publisher like Capcom or Sega.

...and still they skipped Atlus for $140 millions. And also skipped THQ. This was before they publicly spoke about it, but still.

I can see a semi-realistic merger/ acquisition with Konami, Capcom, and maybe Marvelous AQL
Bandai Namco and Square Enix wouldn't be options because they hold strong holds in other industries and the government seems to disapprove of that (with Nintendo's previous effort to buy out Bandai).
Sega-sammy would be absolutely toxic to them since so much of SEGA is arcade and PCs now. Sonic is the only real thing on consoles that's profitable plus maybe Racing

I think they might acquire one Japanese and one Western studio. Something like Retro or Monolith.
Not entire publishers...

Guys really I've been thinking about Apple and Nintendo.. Apple should buy out Nintendo... Apple could provide the resources for a quality console and Nintendo could provide the quality games still using mario and company as their flagship characters!!! You guys agree? :)

Please no... I don't want to pay $5000 for hardware that has the same power level as the gamecube...

lol... come on hun I kno apple is known for high pricing but they would be smart in this market... They are very innovative and they would obviously set prices to compete with the competition, while nintendo's brilliant gaming side would support apples innovation... I dunno the thought just sounds genious to me... I've had a few drinks lol. Oh well just my thoughts.. :)

I think you've had more than a few.  Please step out of the vehicle.

I'd love it if Microsoft and Nintendo merged, that would be a beast that could compete with Sony and the PS4 and we'd have a much more interesting generation.

They wouldn't merge, that wouldn't make any sense. Microsoft is just too big. However, if the rumors that some in Microsoft want to spin off Xbox are true and come to fruition, then a merger of the Xbox spin-off and Nintendo would make a lot of sense and would probably crush everything. They'd be able to cater to every gaming taste and audience even better than Sony, support multiple systems to give different hardware options, and be the very best at marketing like no one ever was.

Well, by merge I meant the stronger buying the weaker, as in Mirosoft buying Nintendo, but if the Xbox division was removed from the rest of Microsoft, then yes, then it would be a merger.

That would be an acquisition. Merger would be like Squaresoft+Enix = Square Enix or Namco+ Bandai = Namco Bandai. I really don't think Microsoft would want Nintendo. Nintendo might consider an Xbox merge, and maybe Xbox as a spin-off division might consider it too, but I doubt Microsoft as a whole would want a Nintendo acquisition. Nintendo IPs? Sure, they'd buy those if Nintendo were selling. But not Nintendo the company.

Buy capcom. sega is too expensive to buy but they could merge.

Nintendo isn't for sale and already provides a quality console.
