Buy XBox division?! Why would Nintendo BUY a hardware division which Microsoft's own investors despise and want gone? I wouldn't pick it up for free.
I don't want Apple in on this, either. Apple's base will buy any hardware which has the Apple logo on it, but I'm not so sure about GAMES. Oh, sure, there's an overlap between Apple consumers and Nintendo buyers, but I'm not sold that it's more than incidental, and would really benefit no one.
The real problem is that Nintendo refuses to believe they need to market their hardware and games. Sony and Microsoft put ads everywhere for their new hardware. Nintendo has a much more complicated premise--gamepad gaming--and has done almost nothing.
IF Nitnendo has cash to do this with, I would buy IP or produce games from third party devs. I don't think they have the money, though. If they did they would have bought Atlus. Even a merge with Sony isn't a great idea. Imagine the gamepad as a $100 accessory to the PS4: you now have to pay $500 to play a Nintendo game as opposed to $300. Going peripheral would butcher their sales.
Nintendo's best bet is to stay the course, push that ad campaign, and hope that between Bayonetta 2, X, and Zelda U they get a home run. They still can manage second place in the gen.
