Xbox fans would be more positive about it if there was a rumor the xbox one was getting it.

Pure speculation. I think people have a threshold for how many gimmicks they tolerate at once.

You mad bro?

No.

I think in the case of Xbox, you have the Kinect which hasn't lived up to it's potential as the Kinect-only games tend to be laggy shovelware. Other than a particular Skyrim DLC, AAA developers have stayed away from it. Other than Kinect Sports Rivals, there's not a single Kinect-only game in the spotlight.

Ask consumers to take up another gimmick? Too far bro.

so long as the new gimmick isnt a FORCED one, why would they not be pleased?

Remember, this is the internet, and a forum at that, they would like it even if they never plan to buy it, just because its another bullet in the chamber of internet argument ammo.

Oculus Rift is brilliant. I tried it and despite the blocky graphics the level of immersion was amazing. I think its been known for many years that VR is the future of gaming but the technology just hasn't been there. 3D televisions are not the same experience at all.

I don't know how long VR will take to get a foot hold but it will be huge.

This is not something the xbox one will do well with its restrictive 32MB embedded memory. It's already struggling with resolution on a single screen. This is really technology for PC's and PS4.

No. I 100% agree.

Its fairly ridiculous and expensive.

Not to mention nauseating, niche and nerdy

Not that a disagree that VR is gonna have to come a long long way for it not to be a flop, but...

Video games in general are fairly ridiculous and expensive. It's niche and nerdy.

I've seen a lot of people talking about VR, people who aren't even big tech geeks. I think it has the chance for mainstream appeal if they can get the price right. We'll see, it's a gamble, but at least developers are trying something new. At the very least we'll probably get some good porn games out of it.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

How does it matter what I look like wearing it if the porn industry gets the technology right?!

Unless the devices get smaller, it will never be very big. But it seems this time it's going to be popular among some hardcore gamers if it's affordable. People like it, people are interested in it. I don't see it going away if prices come down.

The implementation and introduction of it would have to be perfect. If the marquee game for it is poorly done, the tech is done.

The tech won't be done after a poor implementation. It might take a break again, just as 3D has been coming and going the last 70 years. This iteration will be a huge step up from the last one and will actually be affordable to the masses. It will definitely stick around with pc this time as 3D has since the 90's.

Sure you can simulate the same field of view by sitting 1.2ft away from a 34" screen. For living room comfort that scales up to a 250" screen needed at 9ft viewing distance. It's more practical to wear the glasses on the couch. And head tracking will never work right with a fixed screen, same as stereoscopic 3D stuck on a fixed screen. You can do some positional headtracking with stereoscopic 3D, but you really need to keep your head near the center of the screen for best results.

It's still early for VR. Resolution and frame rate are still low. Any noticeable lag in head tracking is potential for motion sickness. But we didn't wait to appreciate 3D gaming before they were as comfortable to watch as their 2D counterparts.

Finally someone comes through with a better explanation "itll be awsum for p0rn lulz" and explains a reason why the apparent un-usability of the design may be overcome.
