VR needs to dramatically drop in price if they ever want it to become mainstream, but the thing is, this stuff has to start somewhere. The same went for these:

- Blu Ray was not popular until Sony decided to add it into every PS3... now it's pretty damn popular. Sony did the same thing with the PS1 and PS2 by helping popularize CD's & DVD's.
- 3D was attempted for years and always failed.... now you see most new TV's have 3D available. Even if it never took off in the gaming department, 3D movies are still pretty popular

So I would totally disagree with you that those failed. They are still growing in popularity as we speak and mostly due to Sony's push. So even tho streaming failed for OnLive, I'm willing to bet that Sony's push for it could drastically propel its popularity. VR we will have to wait and see I guess. It may not take off as the new thing, but by introducing it to the market, in a few years we could see VR prices drop and it become more of a household item.

Well, VR has a better appeal than 3D, simply because it wants to put you inside of the game. About comparisons with VirtualBoy, they aren't valid. VB was made in a time were it wasn't technicaly possible to make VR happen. It's the same than saying that people should quit poligonal games when Vectrex launched.

I get the technological advancement -- but the overall product design still screams virtual boy.

VB had many failures -- maybe the product design may not have been the worst, but there's an obvious reason no one tried to sell the "put this thing on your head" gimmick.

I see what you're saying for sure.  One other thing I think is noteworthy to point out.  Oculus is the only technology listed above who's company has John Carmack (newly) stationed near the top of it.  One of the most visionary minds ever involved with anything gaming.  Also, someone who has had success with never before seen techologies on small and large budgets.  Both with creating techs from the ground up from scratch and with large scale licensing.

I'll judge after i've tried it first. Disagree for now.

Personally, I think word of mouth will be what helps it spread. It's still far too early for most people to have any grasp of how well it works, but given time, they will.

VR is the next step in immersive gaming. It's still early though, for a comfortable long time experience I believe you really need dual 4K at 120fps. But you got to start somewhere. Nobody ditched 3D games when they looked like crap next to 2D games at the time.
