Oculus Rift is brilliant. I tried it and despite the blocky graphics the level of immersion was amazing. I think its been known for many years that VR is the future of gaming but the technology just hasn't been there. 3D televisions are not the same experience at all.
I don't know how long VR will take to get a foot hold but it will be huge.
This is not something the xbox one will do well with its restrictive 32MB embedded memory. It's already struggling with resolution on a single screen. This is really technology for PC's and PS4.
