Occulus is not VR gaming. Its a screen in your face.

Care to eleborate why it is not VR gaming and what is VR gaming to you? It shows you a virtual room and follows your head movements.

I prefer to think of VR gaming as something inside your head. Much like on .hack and Sword art online. You can feel and interact with others and the computer feeds and reads your on your brain activity and stores your choices on the server where its disseminated to the other users.

That would be true virtual reality. This is just a screen in your face that reads your head movements like you say. More realisticly speaking it needs something else like a kinect to read your body movements so it can anywhere near useful. Occulus rift isnt that.

Oculus Rift looks really awesome, especially for horror games.

Only downsides are that the resolution of most games seems to be low (tho newer versions seem to be fixing that), and of course price.

The porn company smart enough to jump on this tech first could make a fortune IMO.

As a kid of the 90s, no, as somebody who has used an Oculus Rift on multiple occasions, absolutely.

That thing is ridiculously cool. Screw looking stupid, the sense of motion and immersion made up for it.

And I think that will be the major selling point, kiosks.  It really doesn't seem like much until you use it.

Why would anyone want to stand up and wave a controller around when they could just sit on their couch and press a button? No one's going to buy that.

...

the Oculus Rift solution is made for use in a seated position (while usually holding a controller), because people don't have a dedicated VR room at home - yes, I know you were referencing the Wii situation with this

When you're just talking about the headsets, I'm not all that interested. That's hardly VR at all. But when combined with that one mobility platform thing and motion controls, it gets me really excited. I love the idea of being so incredibly immersed in a game world, moving and looking around as though I were actually there. It's current limitations make me think it's not necessarily going to become the standard any time soon, but it's still something I would love to experience.

Currently playing:

Bloodbath Paddy Wagon Ultra 9

i don't want to be too negative without having tried it...

...but i remain highly skeptical.  i just don't think that most gamers can get over the stigma of "god this guy looks like a tool".

Like 3D, its going to die among the mass consumer. Only core tech-heads, as those who frequent gaming forums, will likely care much.

Personally, I don't.

The only reason I dont care about it is because its not financially realistic for me.
Once I saw the price of the thing, I didnt even bother looking into it because theres no point.

No, because it's not true virtual reality. When it is I will be interested, until then it's just a gimmick.
