and recently we kept seeing this, with comercials skiping the wii u logo and the companies complaining about low sales of the games they didn't advertise.

Well, if MS and Sony are helping to market these games, Nintendo has to help out, too.

Unfortunately, Nintendo seems to be afraid of entering a marketing war with MS and Sony.

if sony or MS want to help in advertising, it's one thing. but it's a company's job to market it's own games, with first party companies having no obligation to advertise non exclusive third party titles. And we aren't talking about much, companies are skiping a damn logo and then complaining about sales of a version they didn't create awareness of.

But if Sony and MS always wants to help out in advertising then Nintendo will have to do the same as well. Unfortunately Nintendo is a smaller company than Sony and much smaller than MS.

And that logo does make a difference which shows how much Nintendo needs to enter the marketing war with MS and Sony for big multiplatform 3rd party games at least.

Nintendo doesn't have to pay for other companies to put a damn logo of a version of their game. companies have to make games to make money, not the other way around.

anyone got links to the commecails? I missed both Cosmos and Walking Dead last night...-_-

Didn't catch Destiny but saw Watch Dogs during Walking Dead last night.

It's all about the game.

Sony did that also on PS3? At least in Germany there was always more PS3 as 360 advertisement even for multiplat games. Fifa (except for last year) , Diablo 3, Assassin's Creed, Skylanders just to name a few.

It's good since you automatically advertise also for your console and not only the game and if you want to advertise for your console you can do that instead of showing a boring ad which shows some people talking about the console itself.

Not to forget that you increase your relationship with the publisher/developer. I mean, who do you like to work more with, someone who increases your sales and even pays you for that which is like a double effect or someone where your sales are lower and who doesn't pay you?

Joint advertising is a big part of alot of industries, you may not think its fair but it is very lucrative, they can share the cost of advertising while making each others product look good.

Nintendo can ignore this if they want, but they will be the only ones losing out.

The thing is, yes normally the publsiher should pay for the advertisement of their product but Sony and Microsoft do it so that it is pretty simple, companies like Ubisoft or Acivision will obviously prefer to work with Sony and Microsoft because of that. It's not Nintendo's fault that Sony and Microsoft started with it but it's their fault when they act as if that doesn't give these two companies an advantage and if they don't have to counter this.

If your competition does something which helps them and hurts you and you don't do anything against it then it's your problem.

I don't like that Sony and Microsoft do that but if I would be in their position and not the consumer I would do it as well.

€dit: and not to forget that Sony and Microsoft get royalties so that it is legitimate if you pay for advertisement of a product of which you get something around 7 bucks per sale from.

I agree with what nintendo does. if they start doing that, third party's would consider it as the normal thing and start demanding even more stuff that it was suposed to be done by them in the first place.

Nintendo can do what they want but they shouldn't wonder if most third party developer prefer Sony and Microsoft which you would probably do as well if you would have a company and would get much more money from two companies as from another one.

It is the responsibility of the platform manufacturer to make their platform the most popular and inviting possible.  Sony and Microsoft don't have an obligation to promote third party games, of course not, but they do it because it's smart.  Not only does it lead to greater sales for their partners, it also promotes the console itself, which benefits EVERYONE.  Business is all about making deals which make both sides stronger and more successful.  Nintendo doesn't have to follow suit, you're right, but that just means they'll be left behind.
