Forums - Sales - Which Console will be the first to hit 25million? [edit from 15m]

Domination Nation?

Wii U taking it back from... 32 9.91%

PS4 conquering more territories, taking names 276 85.45%

Xbone exploding with TITANFALL and Halo later 15 4.64%

Total:323

So....the PS4 was killing the poll at 15m, so you had to change the metric to give the other consoles a chance? When the vast majority votes PS4 again, are we going to change the goal posts to 35m?

edit: now first to hit 25 million.

It's waaaaay to early to tell at all for any of them, I think.

Wii U won't get to 25 million ever most likely, so you can count at least one of the three out.

Im gonna go with PS4. More games and quality exclusives on the pipeline. X1 could improve at E3, but PS would have to stop selling and making games for them to close the gap.

ok, i might have to leave the goalpost here at 25 million since some believe wii u won't hit 25 million LT. But if you believe it would get past 25m, share ur thoughts and after this round i might raise the bar to 35 m.

I think the importance of exclusives honestly is a bit overrated. You need to have *variety* and developer support. People buy a console to invest in the ecosystem, not just for 1 or 2 games.

It's why the Playstation beat the N64, even though the N64 had arguably 3 of the 4 "landmark" exclusives of the gen (Mario 64, GoldenEye, and Zelda: OoT).

People by and large want to pick and choose what they want to play, not to be told "hey play this 1 game for the next two months".

PS1 beat the N64 for a variety of reasons. Price, CD, and, as you metioned, variety of dev support. Make no mistake about it though, the PS1 had plenty of landmark exclusives. There were more than just 4 exclusive landmarks that you mentioned, off the top of my head, FFVII, DQVII, RE, GT, Tekken, Crash, Tomb Raider, MGS, etc

Right now the PS4 looks to base line at 100-150K a week
Means come November it will be at 9.2 to 10.8 million
So, with holiday sales it could end up anywhere between 11 and 15 million sales

Right now the X1 looks to base line at 50-80K a week
Means come November it will be at 5.1 to 7.2 million
So, with the holiday sales it could end up anywhere between 6.5 and 10.5 million sales

Right now Wii U looks to base line at 40-70K a week
Means come November it will be at 7 to 8.2 million
So, with holiday sales it could end up anywhere between 8.5 and 12.5 million sales

Obviously, trends could change, big announcements, price drops could see bumps to throw off data a bit. That said, the PS4 is the only system that reasonably can discuss 15 million in the near future (next 12 months).

I'm just saying generally speaking most people agree that Nintendo probably had 3 of the 4 or 5 "big" exclusives that generation -- Final Fantasy VII and probably MGS being the other two ... and yet the PSOne outsold the N64 by 3x.

People buy a platform for the overall ecosystem that it provides, a hardware platform has to be well rounded by and large to surpass 35 million hardware units sold. Nintendo keeps insiting on following the formula of relying on 1-2 "miracle exclusives" every year to make up for various other short comings though ... it just doesn't work.
