Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Gamuurs: Did Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze's 108,000FW American sales make you breath a sigh of relief?

240k WW FW isn't to bad imo, especially compared to Mario 3D World that a) Is part of a much bigger series and b) released in November.

I think its pretty respectable even when compared to DK on Wii which released Nov/Dec on a much bigger install base.

What is AWFUL though and cannot be ignored is the almost complete lack of HW boost. The re-release on 3DS made a bigger impact on HW as did the original on Wii. When you take into account how low the Wii U sales are a % bump should have been easier to obtain.

I expected a decent bump in hardware especially in America but like others have said there is already New Super Mario Bros U, New Super Luigi U, Rayman Legends, Sonic Lost World, and Super Mario 3D World on Wii U, so it makes sense why a 6th platformer in a span of 15 minths didnt boost hardware.

It's funny how this only seemingly dawned on some Nintendo fans only in the weeks leading up to DKC's release, I remember saying it last year that their software balance was atrocious, but nooooo, we had to sit through hundreds of "just wait till Wii U gets Pikmin 3, Mario 3D World, Wonderful 101, DKC, Zelda! Holiday sales will be explosivvve!".

What does any of that have to do with what I said?

I'm justing saying I raised this arguement like 6-7 months ago and was attacked by some people for it. Just funny how that turned.

It seems that it´s just around what most people predicted.
DKTF may hit 1 million in its lifetime sales. That should be ok for a console with such small install base

I really didn't think it would do even half that in its first week here...
But it's not as though I was keeping track of preorders or anything, so my expectations were completely arbitrary...
The game is great...

Have a nice day...

It was a lame opening week, this thing is going to flop hard.

Nice contribution to the post, now do everyone a favour and go away.

I know the comparison is silly due to install base differences, but what did Returns open to on Wii and 3DS?

Not the best, not the worst all things considered.

Looks like a fair portion of people getting a WiiU to play DK may have done so weeks before.

The game appears to have sold out on launch day in NA. The shipment numbers were probably low.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

My fear is if DKC: TF doesn't top 1+ million the DKC series will possibly be put on ice by Nintendo for another long period of time and they won't work with David Wise ever again.

Nintendo is not crazy about making sequels to games that don't achieve 1 million+ LTD and DKC probably wasn't the cheapest game to develop even if its not a Halo sized budget.

I wouldn't count on seeing Pikmin 4 for example for a long time.
