Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Gamuurs: Did Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze's 108,000FW American sales make you breath a sigh of relief?

While I am glad everybody is optimistic, those sales are really really low for such an iconic franchise.

How can people say it's just another platform game on a system full of platfomers, surely if your a platform gamer this is the game you want, no other platformer on the system comes close to DK in terms of difficulty and challenge, also this doesn't take into account digital sales, it's number 1 on the e-shop.

I expected Tropical Freeze to do at least 400k first week. Nintendo fucked up once again.

There are 2 and a half million Wii U owners in the US, roughly. What I want to know is what the hell the over 2 million Wii U users that didn't buy DK:TF are doing with their Wii Us? It should have had 300k first week at the very least. It makes no sense. Seriously, who are these people that bought Wii U? They aren't casual, or they'd be buying games like Wii Party U and Wii Fit U. They're not dudebros or CoD would be selling. They aren't "hardcore" or games like Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Ninja Gaiden, Darksiders, Batman, Deus Ex, and stuff like that would be selling. You'd think they'd be 2D platformer fans from how Mario is selling, but come on, the system hasn't had a good 2D platformer since Rayman, and now DK is hardly selling even though it's a Nintendo 1st party exclusive. It's like not even Nintendo fans bought the Wii U, aside from a handful of them. Unless they're all just really poor. I know I am. I only have 5 games for it, and that includes Nintendo Land, and the system itself was a gift. Maybe all Nintendo fans are broke college students and children that can't buy their own games and it's nowhere near a holiday or their birthday. Still, it really just doesn't add up.

The Wii U is just a mess of a console ... Nintendo can't even sell Nintendo software on it consistently.

I just noticed ur stealth edit

Wii U is certainly selling poorly but Nintendo software is selling reasonably well on it. New Super Mario Bros U is on the verge of 4 million, Nintendo Land close to 3 million, Super Mario 3D World almost 2 million, New Super Luigi U & Wii Party U over 1 million, Wind Waker HD & Pikmin 3 almost 1 million and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze 240k in 9 days.

Could it be better? Yes, of course It could but when u consider the hardware has sold less than 6 million these sales are pretty good and will continue to grow as the install base grows.

A lot of these games are bundled with hardware, for example you can't even buy a new Wii U without Wii Party U in Japan even if you wanted to unless you find deadstock inventory of the original SKU. It's a bit like Sony fans touting Knack's sales.

The GameCube was selling more Nintendo software at around the same 6 million number as the Wii U is (even things like Rogue Squadron II were moving great by comparision and Pikmin 1 was outperforming Pikmin 3).

How do u know how well Gamecube software was selling when it was at 6 million? Can u show me that Pikmin 3 is tracking below Pikmin 1 worldwide In first 6 months? What were Rogue Squadron II sales at this point In Gamecubes life?

U cant just shrug off these games sales based on bundling if we dont actually know how much bundling has affected the sales. Knack/Wii Party U are different, there 100% bundled in Japan.

We might as well discredit Uncharted, Halo, Forza, Gran Turismo, GTA5, Last of Us, Fable, Mario Kart Wii, NSMB Wii, Mario Kart 7, Pokemon X/Y sales because they have all been bundled at some point.

Hello, there.

And that's partially why....

Not everybody buys a game in the first 2 days.

It's less than a 5% attach rate! How the fuck did this happen? What are the other 95% of Wii U owners doing? It should be the biggest non-Mario exclusive, and it's being beaten by Wii Party U! Did they not advertise it outside of Youtube, ND, and E3? Did the television commerical never air? It makes no fucking sense!

Indeed, apparently only about 5% of people do, even for one of the biggest 1st party exclusives to hit the system since launch.

I'm quiet pleased with these American sales after the Japanese turned out to be a big let down, guess people don't appreciate quality games anymore.
