Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Gamuurs: Did Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze's 108,000FW American sales make you breath a sigh of relief?

To be quite frank, sub 100k FW is horrible for a sequel of a game that sold 3m in NA. It's probably not even going to reach 1m in the US lifetime. Let's not forget that this was supposed to be one of the system movers and it barely boosted wiiU sales by roughly 3k in NA.

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

USA-108k
Japan-38k

When we add in Europe+rest of the world it will probably be 200k+ FW which is pretty solid. Too bad it didnt move much hardware tho, I was sure it would for at least 1-2 weeks.

According to VGchartz, it is 240k. http://www.vgchartz.com/game/73169/donkey-kong-country-tropical-freeze/

Nice, 300k by the end of February most likely. I still think 2-3 million lifetime is doable.

The problem is that did next to nothing for hardware sales. Should have had Retro working on Metroid instead, at least that would have been different enough to convince a few more people to buy a WiiU.

Donkey Kong Country Returns:6.11M

Metroid Prime1-2-3:5.92M combined

yeah but DK is just another platform title in a console full of games of this genre. As fusioncode said, Metroid at least target a different audience

Yeah, this was kind of what I was thinking when I read it didn't really move hardware.  Wii U has good games... but they're mostly platformers.

108k is not sub 100k. Sub means 'under'.

You should also keep in mind that Donkey Kong Country Returns sold 471k FW with the Wii's massive 2010 install base during the holidays.

The numbers are certainly not as low as they seem.

Regardless of what the competition is doing, when the price for new consumers to play a new hit Nintendo game is still $350 over a year later, then...

The deluxe model actually is $300 now. Though that still is too damn high for many given the current software library.

it came out on the 21st so that's one or two days depending on how the numbers are handled here on VGC so the numbers are great actually!

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

I hope its accurate but vgchartz has a habit of overtracking Nintendo software and hardware by about 25% or more a lot of of the time lately.

Considreing the state of the Wii U, I hope it can hit 1 million ww LTD. I think 2 million is probably asking for a minor miracle.

Nothing but Mario/Mario Kart and Smash (where Mario is feature character) are likely selling more than 2 million on the Wii U unless its heavily bundled with the system.

The numbers were about what I expected, but the fact that it didn't move hardware is troubling.

12% boost in hardware. Did you expect more? DK is amazing, but people who like DK either already own a WiiU, or are waiting on other "bigger" WiiU games.

I wish it had sold more hardware though.
