They'll help it avoid dreamcasting its way to an early death, but I'm still having difficulty seeing it exceed Gamecube sales, so yes but no - depends on what you mean by 'save'
Wii U doomed to Gamecube-like sales? | |||
| Yep, sadly... | 340 | 49.85% | |
| No! Believe it! | 340 | 49.85% | |
| Total: | 680 | ||

At the beginning of this gen, I thought the Wii U could do 50 million max... How wrong was I...
Anyway, I will say "Look at the 3DS" as an example. Yeah, it was selling waaaaay better than Wii U when it was selling bad (I think that made sense), but then MK came out and it skyrocketed!
I'm not saying Wii U will skyrocket, but it's sales will be, let's say, 1.5 better each week, or maybe even twice as much as before! But I don't think it will get past 30m LT.
Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

sure it won't get anywhere close to Ps4 unless something godly happens, but SSB and Mario Kart can help the WiiU get relatively relevant in sales compared to the other two, then maybe developers take it serious and something happens from there on
don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
If Mario Kart 8 can't increase weekly sales nothing else can. The Wii version was the biggest unbundled game of last gen. I expect it to increase sales by a factor of 1.5 to 2.
Sales prediction, PS4: 122 Million, Xbox one: 50 million, Switch: 105 million.

So you're expecting a 60k-80k baseline?

What exactly do you mean by 'save'?...'save' as in, selling as much as the GameCube did?...selling more?...so far the system is on track to sell worse than the GC, but there´s still a chance it sells about the same.
Now if we´re talking about passing GC numbers, sadly I think it´s unlikely.The best thing for Nintendo right now is to find the best way to ride out this situation till the next generation, try to get at least a little profit in the end...the GC didn´t sell well, but they still made profit, however developing for the Wii U has to be far more expensive than it was for the purple box, so it might be much harder this time.
Bundling Mario Kart upon its release with a drop to $249 is their best bet, IMO. Same with Smash this holiday. Yes, that would cost Nintendo money, but I think that would actually sell pretty well (and more consoles sold means more games sold) and they wouldn't need another price drop for a while.
The alternative of just selling the console for $299 and having to buy the new hit game on top of that (which is what is happening with Donkey Kong) isn't going to deliver results. I don't want to see these games being sent out to die.
The system itself is unappealing, its a poison that will affect all software that comes to the console unfortunately, no matter how good it is. Mario Kart & Smash Bros. will do some good in keeping the system afloat, but its really hard for them to expand the userbase of a system no one seems to want.
