I'll answer your question with another question... what's the difference between games like Nintendo Land or NSMB U and your average smartphone game?

The smartphone games cost $59 less.

The huge gap in quality?

Do you see that?  "The smartphone games cost $59 less."  Why do you think he says that?  MAYBE because Mario, as much of a gaming landmark as he is, is for one specific audience.  Mario 2D to Mario 3D, to a lot of us, is still Mario.  They've GOT that crowd...HELL, they've had that crowd and never lost them for over 2 decades.  Don't you think it's about time to add other weapons under your belt as well, Nintendo?

I will answer you question with another question. What's the difference between games like Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, Smash Bros., and Donkey Kong Country and your average smartphone game?

Simple... your average smartphone game sells way more copies because more people out there are aware of the average smartphone game because you don't need to own one specific piece of hardware that may or may not appeal to you outside of one specific piece of software.

And lets face facts... for all this grandoise talk about Nintendo's self-righteous pursuit of the "blue ocean" strategy, is there any bigger ocean out there right now than mobile devices?

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Blue ocean, no. Any ocean, PC.

Really?  I've played both... you could take all of the minigames found in Nintendo Land and put them on smartphones or tablets, and they'd work just as well if not better.

You don't need a $300 console to play an on-rails, tilt-controlled version of F-Zero or touch-heavy games like Yoshi's Fruit Cart and Ninja Castle.   And you won't need 4 extra controllers and  have to fight your friends over who gets to use the gamepad when playing the multiplayer games.

Nintendo could sell all those mini games separately for a couple bucks apiece and they'd literally rake in billions from all the mobile /tablet users out there.

And if you think a game like NSMB can't be done on mobile or tablet devices... they already put the greatest Sonic game ever on these devices.

Lol i certainly see your point...

I suppose I am afraid that moving to the mobile market will destroy what makes nintendo so great: their quality games.

haha, just read the news. My thinking: it make no sense at all. There are game mimic the gameplay of Mario on mobile market but none of them could have a huge success. Let's see that Nintendo would do :v

Because people use anecdotal evidence as proof.

I don't understand why anyone thinks this is a good idea. I know Wii U is failing miserably and the 3DS has already peaked, but in 29 years, they only have 2 yearly losses. Plus, It's very hard to make a casual title a huge hit. They've proved they could do it with the "Wii" series, but the hugest hits on smartphones, like the Angry Birds games, Flappy Bird, Temple Run, etc., all appeal to casual audiences. It's easier to create hits on consoles because they can do almost any genre they want. You have Shooters, Fighters, Platformers, Action games, Adventure games, Racing games, Casual games, Open-World games, etc. being 10 million+ sellers.

Shorter Version

It makes no sense.

The 3DS is outselling the PS4 almost every week. If the 3DS has reach its peak, then the PS4 & ONE & Wii U are *starts speaking in Bender's voice* DDDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM

Anyways, I look forward to all the cool new stuff coming on the 3DS throught 2014 & 2K15 & 2K16. But I guess I'm the only one looking forward to Bravely Second & Pokémon 7th Gen & Code of Princess 2 & Rodea the Sky Soldier & Mutant Mudds 2 & King of Pirates 1 and 2 and 3 & Kid Icarus New & Bayonetta 2.5 & Youkai Watch & Paper Mario New & so way much more.

Because making another console or handheld makes no sense.

I think the next Paper Mario game will be for Wii U, but that's not my point. PS4 is actually ahead of 3DS so far this year, and 3DS has peaked because It's down YOY.
