What if Nintendo released NFC toys for Link in Smash Bros in the following way. A Skyward Sword Link, HD Ocarina of Time Link, and Brawl's Twilight Princess Link, and Fierce Diety Link model that can be played in Smash Bros 4 with the same amount of alternative colors that the orignal in game Link model will get. These NFC Links are just like clothing DLC you find in other games.

The reason it works is Sakurai and team can only make so much alternative colors for a single character and not every wants a Fierce Diety Link model that may replace their favorite shadow Link color. So each character still has the same amount of alternative colors like in Brawl but these NFC toys allow us to have a toy figure we can:

1. Collect physically fo uur geeky pleasures

2. Add more alternative colors and models to our favorite characters in Smash. Again, one model can allow multiple alternative color. Ex: A HD Skyward Sword will have the same amount of alternative coloring as the in game Link will have.

They can also do this in Mario Kart as well. What do you guys think?

I never want Nintendo to make me unlock stuff by buying crap.    Make "break the target challenges" so I can unlock all of it etc  or make people buy the toy for a faster way of unlocking in case they have no patience or lack skills.

BUT DO NOT prevent people from having it unless they buy some crap toys. That would completely be oppsosite of Nintendos philosophy.

Just let people buy the toys if they want and as a little bonus help them to unlock stuff in Smash  but dont make a toy a requirement for ingame features.

Add a PAINT mode for the Smash costumes if you want more colors.

I thought we were on the same page here, guys. This kind of money-grubbing DLC is a BAD thing, remember?

Nintendo fans are so weird. They're practically begging Nintendo to take advantage of their undying loyalty by shoving a bunch of dumb Skylanders shit into their biggest games. Stop doing that. It's weird. Try asking Nintendo to give you a full game at a $60 flat value, sans the pricing gimmicks. I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars to have a "complete" version of Smash Bros and I don't appreciate others trying to convince Nintendo that this is a good idea.

this, dont know why people would like to get money grabbed by a company, they are wierd!

the thing is how about most of other games with DLC? they are the biggest money grab companies while Nintendo games usually dont hold back and give you everything in day 1. Also nintendo games that do DLC give out some things free and/or are really cheep in price (pikmin 3 had DLC for example for just $2)

dlc in my opinion is fine because it enables a person to continue playing their games thus enhancing your experiance

but this nfc thing is nothing but a money grab attempt, and i wouldnt be surprised if the sold each figure for 20 +dollars

Yeah ok lol. They wouldnt sell each one that high, also dlc is fine but nfc isnt? So SSB they give you all characters+stages (practically all unlockables on day 1) but then a game likePSASBR gives yu 20 characters (with no unlockables) and in less than 2 months gives you 2 extra characters and a stage for $10. Thats not a money grab attempt right?

Wait did you read the OP? I said all characters have the same amount of colors as Brawl. And if Sakurai wants to release this game in 2014, he's not going to put all models of Link in when he can focus on fine tuning other aspect of the games.

And what's the shame of adding more content to your game that is already complete? It's like buying paint to paint your car!

There's a reason Sakurai isn't putting every model of Link in the game, it's because that's a waste of time when you have to delegate your resources appropriately.

Alt costumes would be great, if they have the time to implement them. If they don't have the time, they aren't going to put in months of overtime to put five times as many unique character models in the game, each with a half-dozen different pallete swaps. That's an insane amount of work.

DLC is fine, if it's appropriately priced. You're talking about selling costume packs for at least $5 per model, with four different models for one character. So let me get this straight. If I'm a big Zelda fan who can't control his spending, not only am I paying $60 for the game, I'm paying an additional $20 just to have all of the different alternate costumes for Link, bringing the total price of the game to $80. And if I buy all of the Zelda and Ganondorf alternate costumes, I've doubled the original cost of the game.

Let's not stop there! Brawl had 40 characters! Assuming the new game has the same number (though it's likely to have more), we're looking at $800 worth of DLC... represented entirely by alternate costumes. Man, what a great value!

I suppose Nintendo could make really shitty, 25¢ figurines or something. But those Pokemon Rumble U figures already weren't so hot, and they cost $4.

The shame of adding more content to an already complete game is that the developers putting the work in to make that additional content could instead be working on future projects.

Nintendo's experiments in DLC so far have been a mixed bag, as one of Rol's most recent threads pointed out. But people around here are basically saying, "that's not bad enough, I want to be used more." It's scary how often people ask why Nintendo doesn't just make a full NFC Pokemon game. They don't seem to consider the consequence of what they're saying: That Nintendo would be selling 720+ unique figurines for a single game. If the figurines are of remotely decent quality, they'll cost a few dollars apiece at the very least. Meaning the full price of this game would be in the thousands of dollars.

"That's not a problem," too many people say, "they should only make figurines of the first 151 Pokemon and ignore the other eight bajillion that I don't care about and wouldn't buy anyway because I'm a genwunner." So, 151 figurines, for how much? $5 apiece? (That's less than Skylanders or Disney Infinity figurines, I believe). So that's only $755 for the whole game, that's completely reasonable.

Or they could make it so you buy a game (say, 50$) that is fully playable and fun and whatnot

If you like said game, you can buy a few extra Figurine exclusive characters (say a legendary or two and maybe lucario or something). Additionally, if they wanted to start with the original 151 included in game, they could make additional pokemon sets available as 10$ figures (say buy a starter figure and get around 50 of the gen two pokemon and an exclusive gym battle and dungeon)

Theres a lot of ways Nintendo could make an awesome NFC pokemon game that wouldn't be a horrible money grabbing attempt...also, its not like you have to buy every figurine in the game. For the average person, the game would cost 50-80$ using the above model and they would get the original 151, around 100 extra pokemon and a figurine exclusive...

I like the bolded idea. Give people the full game like they always have, but for those that aren't patient or skilled enough to unlock everything through the game, they can pay their way toward it + collect a cool figurine. But don't hold out any content on those of us who only want to buy the game.
