I never want Nintendo to make me unlock stuff by buying crap. Make "break the target challenges" so I can unlock all of it etc or make people buy the toy for a faster way of unlocking in case they have no patience or lack skills.
BUT DO NOT prevent people from having it unless they buy some crap toys. That would completely be oppsosite of Nintendos philosophy.
Just let people buy the toys if they want and as a little bonus help them to unlock stuff in Smash but dont make a toy a requirement for ingame features.
Add a PAINT mode for the Smash costumes if you want more colors.
