Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Big box stores base their shelf space on sales. And that could have a cascading effect. The new consoles in the mix fighting for shelf space also. Walk into a store in my area, looks like WiiU disappeared. Even the software's been condensed down in display cases. For you and me that's fine, we know about the WiiU. But the average consumer? Heck, to me it looks the stores are dumping it. Don't think Nintendo's abandoning it though. I do think the ever decreasing shelf space will effect its sales.

Mainline games bro. Mainline not spin offs
Just with MK (and a MK bundle), and Smash Bros. alone, the Wii U should be able to sell more than 3 million in 2014. Let alone the other games coming out, including ones not yet announced.
Sales were down in 2013 because of an extreme lack of games until late in the year. That is not the case in 2014, so selling closer to 5 million in a year certainly isn't a stretch.

Donkey Kong has also pretty much never sold less than 5 million... |
Well...that's not entirely true...Donkey Kong Country 3 and Donkey Kong Land 1&2 both sold significantly under 5 million. DKC3 actually just barely made it over 3.5 million.
But, yes, Tropical Freeze will probably be a significant boost as well. The 3 million claim for the Wii U is silly. It sold over that numer in 2013 (3.2 million I believe), and it's got a lineup of games that sell significantly better than the first party lineup it had in both 2013 and 2012 combined (Mario Kart > 2D Mario, Smash Bros > 3D Mario, Donkey Kong > Pikmin), and the third party support can't get much worse. If it could manage over 3 million last year, it'll easily get past that this year.

Most of Nintendo's big franchises are not on Wii U yet, basically just 2D Mario & 3D Mario.
The Wii Series are not big hitters. They are the Wii U equivelant of Brain Training/Nintendogs, games that sold very well in the 7th gen due to high interest from casual crowd and have huge drops this gen since that crowd has moved on to Smartphones/Tablets. These types of games have not been able to show any type of consistancy from one gen to the next so I dont think the can be considered big hitters.
Pikmin is a very niche franchise, its far from a big hitter but is a solid support title. Wind Waker HD is not a big hitter, its an updated port of a 10 year old game, again this is just a solid support title. Nintendo Land is a new series so there is no way of knowing if its a big hitter or not, most likely its a game that can sell 1-2 million without bundles so once again a solid support title.
In terms of big Nintendo franchises on Wii U, there is 2D/3D Mario and a few solid support titles. There is still Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Smash Bros and an original Zelda to be released which are all series that have have sold over 5 million on numerous occasions and on multiple consoles. There are also still a ton of smaller support titles from Nintendo that could be released on Wii U, Paper Mario, Mario Party, Mario Sports, Metroid, Kirby, Fire Emblem, Star Fox, F-Zero, Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion, Pokemon spinoffs, Punch-Out, Kid Icarus and others im probably missing.
The point is Nintendo still have a ton of games to release on Wii U in the next 2-3 years and 5 million is not out of the realm of possibility this year.

Going by fiscal year yes 3million but it actually sold 4 million in 2013
