Off topic, but 1.46m on the Atari 2600 was d*mn good back then! O.O

And just 80k in Europe (if that's correct), with one of those right here on my shelf .

I was reading this over at GoNintendo, and I had to laugh at the comments. All but one person thinks it will sell way more than that. The lone calm voice pointed out 'I dunno... to hit 3 million, it would have to sell 250k a month, something it to date has not done.'

it sold 3m last year...

and patcher is an idiot, so 6m wii u 2014 confirment...

Michael Patcher is awesome and a very intelligent man. Have you ever watched his show Pach Attack at GameTrailers? He is one of the most likeable human beings I have ever encountered. The only people who say he is an idiot are those who know NOTHING about him and only see his predictions that often go against their own. Not only will it not sell 6 million, it probably won't even do 4 million. I think 250k a week is high even if ofset by the Holidays. 3 million might be a notch high. I remember this exact SAME type threads last year. People predicting 7 million, 10 million and so on. How did that work out? Now with competition from 2 other next gen consoles, 3 million might be way too high of a prediction.

Removing the tablet from the next Wii U would split an already small user base. But they could start using a cheaper 5" screen for it, using a 6"+ screen only in premium models (or make it optional also for them, should their market researches show most people find the current tablet controller too big).

This is really good idea actually, I hope Nintendo does this if they still decide to have the GamePad, which I unfortunatley think they will.

I just want to know how Nintendo held the play testing session for the Wii U for its GamePad. Didn't any testers of them express concern, if Nintendo asked for it, that the controller was too bulky, screen was distracting, or even unnecessary? Still can't believe they didn't try to make the Wii controller more advanced. They could have made it so it can sense how hard you were grabbing or squeezing it. Imagine choking someone in a video game or.... never mind.

It did 3.2 million last year and is up YoY so far this year despite having added competition.

- 3,000,000 = 57,692 consoles per week.
- Week 5 this year has done 48,244 with nothing being released yet for 2014.
- Total for 2014 so far is about 254k (I split week 1) with 4.5 weeks of data, which would give it an average so far of 56,400 per week.

So Pachter wants us to believe that in 2014 with the release of Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Bayonneta 2, Hyrule Warriors, X, Yoshi's Yarn and whatever else Nintendo have on the way that sales are going to stay completely stagnant. That's an average so that would mean next holiday season it will only sell 57k per week, when last year it sold 230k with just SM3DW. It's just a shitty prediction. I have my A.A. in business and am working on my bachelor's and can analyze that prediction for 3 minutes and tell you it is a garbage prediction. With all of the games that we already know of being released this year the Wii U will do no less then 5.5 million,

350k per week in the five big holiday weeks = 1.75 million
79,800 per week on average for the other 47 weeks = 3.75 million

A 120k bump per holiday week + a 20k per normal week bump with all of that software coming out is still a pretty conservative estimate. I have no clue if Pachter is just anti-Nintendo or he is just doesn't get it. My only explanation for that type of number is this.....Mario Kart = SM3DW, Smash Bros = Wind Waker, Donkey Kong = Pikmin, Hyrule Warriors = Wii Party U, Xenoblade = Lego City Undercover, which is ridiculous.

The added competition factor is minimal.    PS4 and Xbox One are directly competing with eachother.  90 percent of their lineups are identical, and they are trying to lure people in with the hardware itself and 1st party content.        On top of that most of the content on both is aimed at the FPS,Racing Game,Sports game crowd.   Nintendo's lineup is very different and offers pretty much everything that isn't an FPS or Sports Game.    Someone who bought a PS4 or Xbone could still easily be convinced to buy a Wii U.   It's a much tougher sell though to get someone with a PS4 to buy an Xbox One.   We saw the same thing last gen.  Lot's of people had Xbox 360 + Wii or PS3 + Wii.   Nintendo can easily do the same thing this gen.  They just need to make sure there are plenty of games that are not on the other 2 consoles that are must haves.

I know that was the point of my post, up YoY despite more competition.

Yea I know I was just helping you out :). I always see PS4 v. Xbox One v. Wii U stuff on here but Nintendo is really just their own thing now. Most people will pick between either a PS4 or Xbox One and then will either get or not get a Wii U depending on how good or bad Nintendo's games are. Nintendo tried to compete with Sony when they released the Gamecube and it failed miserably.

In between 3 million and 3.1, Pachter spot on as usual.

I'm sorry, but DKCR2, Mario Kart, X, new (hopefully better) Sonic, Bayonetta 2, new Yoshi, Smash Bros., Hyrule Warriors, possibly SMT x FE, possibly even Zelda U, and at LEAST a couple other games we haven't heard about yet? It would be almost a miracle for the system to sell ONLY 3 million or so units in 2014. 2013 had a handful of good games, but they were so sparse, with most of the year being deadsville. 2014 is already much better paced, with Wii Fit U in Jan., and DKCR2 in Feb., two months that literally had zero retail releases in 2013. And they're bound to have SOMETHING in that gap in March and April, before MK8.

I just do not see Wii U selling less than 4 million, and I honestly think it'll be over 5 million. Maybe I'm being generous or optimistic, but with two mega-hits like Mario Kart and Smash Bros. alone, that people are really anticipating, I think it's going to do fine.
