It did 3.2 million last year and is up YoY so far this year despite having added competition. |
The added competition factor is minimal. PS4 and Xbox One are directly competing with eachother. 90 percent of their lineups are identical, and they are trying to lure people in with the hardware itself and 1st party content. On top of that most of the content on both is aimed at the FPS,Racing Game,Sports game crowd. Nintendo's lineup is very different and offers pretty much everything that isn't an FPS or Sports Game. Someone who bought a PS4 or Xbone could still easily be convinced to buy a Wii U. It's a much tougher sell though to get someone with a PS4 to buy an Xbox One. We saw the same thing last gen. Lot's of people had Xbox 360 + Wii or PS3 + Wii. Nintendo can easily do the same thing this gen. They just need to make sure there are plenty of games that are not on the other 2 consoles that are must haves.
