A prediction based on nothing is worthless.

Based on his own assumptions and research. What else does modern man need to accept someones Nintendo predictions?

I just expect people to have an actual reason for thinking certain things instead of being based on hopes/dreams, it didnt even have to be a very good reason just something that shows he actually put some thought into his prediction.

He could have said 3DS is up YoY in America/Europe and will stay that way throughout the first half of the year due to Yoshi/Kirby/Mario Golf. Smash Bros in September alongside a $30 price cut on all skus will cause a big spike in sales and Pokemon Z+Majora's Mask 3D alongside many great bundles will ensure a strong holiday season.

Japan is down YoY by a large margin causing global sales to be down. They willl fix this by releasing 2DS in late Spring/early Summer followed by Smash Bros in September which will be huge since its the fist handheld entry and Japan is handheld centric. They will close out the year with Pokemon Z+Monster Hunter 4G+Dragon Quest XI.

Japan sales will still be down YoY but by a small enough margin so that America/Europe can make up the difference and push worldwide sales to be up YoY in 2014.

This is an unlikely scenario but if he would have said something similar to this it would have shown he actually had a reason to believe his prediction and not just what he hopes will happen.

also, going by recent years, we should see a 3DS Lite or whatever this year, Japan really needs both that and the 2DS.

That's my guess, I think the 3DS will have another model by 2015. I think Nintendo won't cut the 3DS life until 2017. It's just a hunch though.

Well, they still have the option to release a 3DS "Light" model that is slimmer and cheaper to produce. That would also enable them to drop the price. Other than that the biggest first party games have been released and software support will slowly dry up after 2014.

Well, if Nintendo is still the same Nintendo that released the Wii, then after a great 2013 they're now going to simply stop making games for 3DS, apparently satisfied. So yeah, it peaked.

I'm with you.

I don't think it has peaked yet either. Right now only Japan seems to be slowing a bit, but they still need to release the 2DS there. In the west it's still only going up. There could be another redesign in the future, and there's likely still more big games to be released besides Smash Bros.. Not to mention another price-cut. For a handheld, it's still relatively expensive. Though 2DS maybe makes up for that.

Maybe, maybe not. Either way it would be by extremely little. It's funny; I did not even know that the 2DS is yet to release in Japan until reading this thread. I'd be surprised if that gives a significant boost in sales there, but let's hope so. Has Nintendo revealed a Japanese 2DS release yet?

Steam: garretslarrity

I wont say it's impossible, but given how things look, the best case scenario with the current information would be to slowly decline (maintaining over 10m a year for more than 2 years).

Yes, the 3DS didn't peak yet! Don't ask me why though, it's more of hunch than an educated guess. I feel the 3DS still has a lot of life in it and we will see it peak in 2015 with the introduction of a new model or something like that.

...And that's it! Feel free to bump this and make fun (or not) of me in a couple of years!

I'll also attach this to my thread:

You can't be too positive these days around here if you are talking about Nintendo! So I attached this article about Nintendo's hardware decline by Matt Matthews! I think it's well written... kinda! It's bad news so rejoice!

Something like the 2DS ? :D
Seriously I think many of us thought that a 2DS would sell enormously well, but it barely increased the sales.

Sales are going down IMO, but not that dramatic.

I think the 2DS will have greater effect when it's released in Japan. But I have a feeling that we will have some sort of 3DS lite or something like that by 2015 and that model will keep the system going strong. They can release it with another Pokemon game even!
