Based on the numbers, it has.

So people think it peaked in the year it got a hardware revision and animal crossing?

Kind a stupid.

Like Joe said, its probably gonna sell 15 million every year till it starts its downward trend.

Its japanese sales are already 4 million higher than GBA, it needs to catch up in the rest of the world

I think a Metroid PRime 3DS game woud be great for that

Of course not. There's a lot of life in this thing.
Nintendo did price cut only once... 2,5 years ago.
I expect new pricecut in 2014 worldwide and 2ds release in japan soon.

They need big sellers for genres that are not already on the console, otherwhise I don't see that happening.

If you don't mind me asking, what genres would those be?

Shooter, fightnings, sandbox I guess.

Hmm interesting.  It would definitely bring a different appeal to the handheld market.  Maybe stuff like that will be useful for handhelds which have traditionally been more limited in their genres due to hardware limitations.  But the GTA series did very well on PSP so possibly room to expand on that for 3DS.  It could possiby move more console gamers into getting a handheld who wouldn't traditionally buy one as well.  I think most thought that crowd would go for Vita but it doesn't look like Vita is competing well enough to warrant such titles.  Interesting.  Thank you for clarifying.

I think it did. That EPIC holiday 2013 (or was it 2012) where Nintendo did the triple whamy of Monster Hunter 3, Mario 3D and Mario Kart in the same period?!?!?!

Even 2013 with Pokemon. It will be hard to top those years.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

DIdnt really push hardware however.

Animal Crossing and 3DS XL release did more

its up to Nintendo. i think it peaked because Nintendo is going to release a new portable sooner than later

I think another interesting thing to watch is how much of the last generation's handheld market the 3DS can tap into in Japan. The PSP and DS sold over 50 million units and I wonder how much of that market is still available.

I doubt a price cut is coming this year, thats basically the reason they released 2DS in the first place. 3DS/XL are overdue for a price drop but that isnt financially viable for Nintendo right now so they released a cheaper entry level sku to delay a true price cut.
