I think if Nintendo wants to have success with older gamers and have the third parties that make those types of games take them seriously, they themselves have to make a flagship IP for that audience and prove that it can sell in the millions.
If Nintendo still had say James Bond or Perfect Dark and were selling 3-4 million copies of that every time out, they would have third parties like those that make games like Grand Theft Auto and BioShock wanting in on their platform.
All the pubs that make mascot/kids-centric games support the Wii U with things like Rayman and Sonic and LEGO and Skylanders because they see the sales Mario and Pokemon generate and that want in on the gravy train.
Demographics, Nintendo. It's not a conspiracy, it's just common sense.
