Netflix will never work either, that would be stupid, wich publisher would give away his shows for subscription or rental ?

"Pachter is a joke", I say.

You do realize that studios have forced Netflix into delaying their release of current movies so that they can reap the benefits of greater physical disc sales.

You undermine your own argument with your example.

Is netflix dead ? If not, I don't see how my argument is valid.

Netflix makes tons of money and I see no reason why psNow wouldn't.

Netflix and Redbox survive because the studios allow them to.  They make more money via On Demand services through TV services or physical copies than they do rentals.  Nothing prevents studios pulling their content, as some have done from Netflix, and forcing consumers to use an alternate means of access.

And, despite that, netflix is still growing.

To be able to replay Dark Cloud 2 and Summoner 2 alone I'd want PSNow.

I think we need to look to Netflix for how PS Now may operate, and I don't think that Patcher is that far off the mark. With Netflix you almost never get 'new' movies, so I agree that we won't be seeing "GTA 6" launching for streaming same day as launch.

But, as others have pointed out, PS Now is more or less going to support older games, which is where Netflix shines with movies/tv shows. On your PS3/4 you'll be able to have an entire series instantly at your fingertips.

On Netflix people can binge on 7 seasons on The Office all at once, and with PS Now people will be able to binge on the Metal Gear Solid series all at once.

While there are tons of games that were amazing for their time, I don't think most people will be going back to them. Maybe only 1 or 2 titles will rekindle a short interest. PS3 games, yes to clear up a backlog and then unsubscribe when you're done, but PS1/2 not really.

For example, I sunk 100s of hours into GTA3 on PS2, but would I go back to ever play it? With the likes of GTA5 out, not a chance.

It's a little different from Netflix, where you have entire seasons which are chronological in story line that you'd want to watch. Video media is different to games because it is a passive past time. So while you would be willnig to go back and watch Groundhog Day again, like most people you won't play DMC1 because it's a  "been there done that" kind of deal.

That is my prediction. PS NOW won't appeal because people are not that interested in paying to play such old titles.

Gamefly will ride out strong no matter what.

I think Pachter is correct in believing most new content will take some time before it will reach the service. There are a ton of great old content to make his service great even if the newest stuff is not immediately there.

Your logic sounds reasonable enough. But then there is Virtual Console... it's a completely different service, and comparing both is kinda of a stretch, I'm aware of that. But there are people out there who are willing to pay to play old games, yes.

PlayStation Now is primarily to enable the playing of PS3 games on PS4.

The PS3 library is huge right now even if they dont make any more games for PS3 from right now.

Patcher has misunderstood and therefore HE is the joke ..

I'm very wary of playstation now. I have the feeling it is going to be prohibitively expensive somehow. Not to mention the fact that I'm sure the service will be more user restrictive than the xbox ones initial plans (although I only hear excitement from sony fans about this ) .

That being said, there really isn't enough information right now to say whether or not playstation now will be a success. Looking at what pachter said, I don't think he really thought it through as ps+ does this already and is quite successful. Once sony actually addresses what the cost and support is actually going to look like, then we can discuss how good or not good playstation now is going to be. Right now, it is just a giant question mark that I am fairly pessimistic about...

he's got something of a point. what is sony's business model? if it starts out only playing ps3 games who's paying for this service? i certainly wouldn't pay much, if at all, for this service.

promising,. but i need to see better value.

I believe you hit it right on the head.  What is Sony business model.  First out of the gate will be PS Vita, PS4, Bravia and PS3 devices.  Out of those devices what will be the uptake for the service.  Next will be price.  How much will the service cost.  The cost part will be very important.  I believe anything over the cost of streaming services like Netflix, Hulu Plus etc will meet with a lot of resistance.  Last but not least, is this target market to play PS1/PS2/PS3 games really that large.

I am really interested to see how the service performs, the pricing structure and the demand.  I personally am not the target because I have a PS3.  I have PS Plus and I have no interest in playing PS1/PS2 games.

It's kind of amazing that this guy keeps opening his mouth and defecating all over the internet with each breath he takes. Playstation Now, isn't really for folks like us who keep past consoles, and have giant libraries. Right now it's absolutely going to be focused to the consoles, as a type of beta run (which will include more folks than the current beta test), my take is it's a shot at hitting the much much wider demographic of people with TV's, Smartphones, Tablets etc...

If Playstation Now provides access to the bulk of the PS1/2/3 library, on any of the above devices, which is what Sony eventually plans, it opens up a massive demo of people who aren't necessarily interested in buying a console, but have kids, or the random urge to play a game now and again. Not only would the subscriptions represent a good chunk of change, but it would also open up the periphery market to them as well, which is where a great deal of money is made by hardware manufacturers.

I have a PS3 and a PS2, and a gaming PC, but I understand that this service isn't really made for me. I'm always going to have at least one console kicking around and my PC. This is for folks who simply don't game on the level that I do, and clearly, there's a large amount of people with wallets that this targets.
