Forums - Gaming - SAD! Remember Me developer DONTNOD gone into receivership (pre-bankruptcy)

http://www.factornews.com/news-39397-DontNod_en_redessement_judiciaire.html#.Uut3Nz15OSo (article in French)

This morning we learn that French studio behind Remember Me, DONTNOD, is nearly bust and has been public administrative control (redressement judiciaire is by French law a way for ailing companies to continue doing business for a short time while being protected by the administration, so as to avoid direct bankruptcy and give it a chance to recover).

This is SAD news. Remember Me is a remarkable title, but more important, it brings a whole new gameplay, a whole new universe and a story that goes far beyond the standarts of this industry, close to the best SF movies/books. It provides food for thought and is stunningly relevant to think or re-think today's world problem. It is more educative than any other game this year.

How can it end like this? There are several reasons. Capcom withdraw all marketing plans just before release, which happened at the worst possible time (before E3). BUT the biggest problem lies in those journalists who are incapable of driving this industry forward, refusing to promote innovation and new universes. Those guys have spent years brainwhasing people into buying FIFAs, CODs, GTAs, ACs, Marios and other over-milked stuff so that when different approaches to video games emerge, no one's there to pay attention. The vicious circle of killing creativity is now almost unstoppable. What did this site tell you? "this game doesn't deserve to sell", and of course, Mario is the game of the year. Where are we going like this? Should we play Mario for another 25 year, ditch new game creators, snub the efforts of writing great scenarios, kill off new IPs so that we can keep playing exactly the same thing, at the risk of never be able to say "wow" again when a great new experience comes to us?

The mario argument was a bit unnecesary, but other than that I agree. Unfortunately, Capcom send this game to die, in the hope for a quick cash-grabbing and not a long-term sales plan.

Not surprised, the ironic Remember Me was hugely forgotten.

When's the last time a game used an unattractive female protagonist and it became a big hit?

Heavenly Sword, Mirror's Edge, AC Liberation all tried and failed.

This was a good game. The studio is probably a good studio. If they do go bankrupt, I hope that will find jobs in the industry and amaze us again =)

It's PS+ in February I think

Remember Me is a fantastic game with a great story and fun combat. A bit too linear, sure (it makes FF XIII look like Skyrim) and too easy and hand-holding on the platforming and puzzle side, but a truly unique experience with great art.

Something we haven't seen in a while but reminiscent of the golden age of action adventure games (Time Commando, Tomb Raider 1 etc). A bit like Dreamfall in it's ambition, another failed game, but Remember Me is a lot more playable, easier to digest and funner.

Game was pretty good, certainly worth the time.
Story and setting was awesome.

i could not deal with the gameplay but otherwise it was great. the devs would at least have had deserved a second chance. such a shame...
