Forums - Gaming - [RUMOR] Xbox One GPU reserve getting smaller soon, down from 10% to 2%

Every bit helps and 8% will certainly help in some games like DR3 or AC4 to have more stable framerates.

But the real problem of the X1 is not really the GPU but the splitted Video/Main ram memory architecture. The main memory is too slow and it will always lead to big bottlenecks with open (or semi-open) 3D world games which really use extensively the main memory to continually process stuff while you play.

That's why the games where X1 shine is with closed sports games or racers games. And X1 has really trouble to do more open games like FPS (COD/BF4) and open world games (DR3/AC4).

But it's good nonetheless, they could patch Ryse with a boost of 8% and instead of averaging 27fps during action they could average 30fps (still dipping sub-30fps but less often).

There is no split memory. The ERAM is a cache like any other.

8 % more fps in an 30 fps game is like 2.4 fps more. 8 % higher resolution than 720p would be a theoretical 777p. Don't get your hopes up. It will probably be used for some more AA or AF, nothing too serious.

This looks fake. How famous he may be, even he should know the difference between percent(%) and permille(‰).

Also, didn't they say that X1 has a dedicated audio processor?

They have. It's called SHAPE.

It's even less than that if you take into account the same memory bandwidth (and CPU) bottlenecks. And for 900p/1080p games, you need a lot of bandwidth so it could mean like 1.5 FPS for a 1080p game.

When PC users overclock their GPUs they overclock the Video Ram too otherwise the effect will be very limited and not linear with the OC %.

Pretty cool, the better the performance, the better the overall game experience

mmm, the XOne GPU is so weak that a small % more is not significant. I hope devs will come up with creativity and originality; performance are low, we already know. What to do.

This is how it should have been launched. I still dont think its enough for the XB1 to match the PS4.

It is not about competing with PS4, it is giving devs more resources. This happens in every life cycle of a console. Tools get better, APIs get better and get optimized, overheads are getting wiped away and given that consoles nowadays also run a full featured os this also gets optimized. Business as usual.

Guys,

This rumor can be false but the Kinect 10% reservation is true confirmed by MS.

An extra 8% power should ensure that the Xbox One runs at the same resolution as the PS4 but at a lower FPS, or at a slightly lower resolution and the same fps, which is good enough for me and most Xbox gamers I imagine.

Don't think so. The raw GPU power difference is around 50%. Even if they removed voice and video it wouldn't made for that. We will see differences in multiplats for the rest of the gen, it's not a PS360 case where both are similar and one just is easier to develop. It's two consoles with the same architecture and with a reasonable power difference.

XOne games will start to popup in 1080p not because of MS improvements, but because devs will start to use its power correctly. It's the start of the gen, we are seeing PC ports, PS360 ports and badly optimizated games, things will change a lot in the next few years.

And it could be true. That's why it's called "Rumor" in the thread title. But it wouldn't surprise me, business as usual.
