Forums - Gaming - [RUMOR] Xbox One GPU reserve getting smaller soon, down from 10% to 2%

Just out of curiosity, what exactly is the 2% of the GPU doing with "voice"?

EDIT: nm... too late.

I still find it odd the GPU is processing voice data though.

Yes, it is odd, the PS4 processes sound with it's GPU sometimes it too.  It's just something they are doing these days.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

While it's definitely a plus that devs get to make the decision on the resources they wish to reserve for Kinect, it's not a big enough improvement to make much of a difference graphics wise. It also seems MS is abandoning some of their Kinect features to make up some of the graphics gap. I think they know the power situation is only going to become more apparent when Sony starts releasing their big guns.

What I don't understand is why the Xbox One would have a GPU reserve for voice, even if it's only 2%. Wouldn't voice be ran on the CPU normally? Voice has nothing to do with graphics whatsoever.

If this rumor is true, it's probably for the best, I can't see that many people taking Skype video calls while playing games anyways, and they can still take Skype voice calls. An extra 8% power should ensure that the Xbox One runs at the same resolution as the PS4 but at a lower FPS, or at a slightly lower resolution and the same fps, which is good enough for me and most Xbox gamers I imagine.

Kinect didn't process the audo data that come from the capture... so the system needs to to that... most part of that processing is done by Share (the audio chip) but some part is needed to be done by CPU or GPGPU... MS choose to use 2% of the GPU for that because I guess it used a lot more from CPU.

I think it is for good too but some buys snap Skype... so they play while see the video of the other guy in the part of the screen.

I do not think this effect Snap capability.  I think the video part is Kinect video.  In other words, the system does not need to reserver and GPU for motion which is video from the Kinect sensor since voice is all that is needed to move around Kinect.

Could that mean they are struggling to lock 60fps on TitanFall? Only game big enough to justify that move may be

That one...Pretty sure they do not want to release it under 1080p without 60 locked fps, respawn have been asked if that small increase could make a difference to which they respond yes (this is 100% assumption and not from any source but myself).

This and the "6v6 is perfect player count" (which sounded like total bs) may be what they needed to be able to achieve 1080/60 to avoid another res/fps gate.

In an interview with Eurogamer before the X1 released, they mentioned they were considering removing the 10% allocation for Kinect and other task from the GPU.  This just could be that once the system shipped, MS improved the overhead needed for Kinect or found that certain task are not needed and thus reduced the reserve percentage.

The signaling of a Kinectless SKU not to far away then?

Much needed. They're trying to achieve dat magical 1080P.

Was that for me?

This looks fake. How famous he may be, even he should know the difference between percent(%) and permille(‰).

Also, didn't they say that X1 has a dedicated audio processor?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

This is how it should have been launched. I still dont think its enough for the XB1 to match the PS4.
