Forums - Nintendo - Am I the Only One? (Super Mario 3D World didn't do it for me)

I haven't played it but don't really want to. I feel like NSMB is good enough to scratch my 2D Mario needs and Galaxy, the 3D side of things. This game seems like it tries to appeal to both fans and rarely does that work. Idk though, it may be good.

NSMBU is an OK game, but this one ... well it feels like driving a luxury car instead of a standard car. Maybe you don't notice it all at once, but once you get used to it, it's very hard to go back.

And dat soundtrack .... ooooooooh boy.

The game gets "better" later, but "better" is relative to how it was when it started. Overall, it's not the ambitious title that many wanted to see for Nintendo's first HD 3D Mario. It's a good game, has a good amount of creativity, but it lacks any sort of "wow" value that previous console 3D Marios had. This one had virtually little to no wow value.

I dunno about that even to be honest. The soundtrack for example I think in the end is as good as either Galaxy game. It's the best looking Mario 3D game (yes mostly because it's on the most powerful hardware, but mmm hmmmm Nintendo-ey goodness in HD). The amount of call backs and nostalgia shoved into this game also trump the Galaxy games which always felt kinda ... disconnected from the other Mario games. This one has very clear call backs to SMB1, SMB2 (USA), SMB3, SM World, SM64, and the Galaxy games and even a certain famous other Mario game (won't spoil it).

It's a (very) crude analogy and I hope no one takes offense because it's not my intent, but its like meeting a pretty girl who you click with personality wise but finding out later she's very "giving" in the love making department (ahem, downstairs).

You're probably not the only one feeling that way, but you're definetly in the minority of people who didn't like the game.

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

Not a minority.

Uh? What point are you trying to make? This is absolutely irrevelant to my original post.

I think what they're trying to say is 'most avid gamers haven't even tried to play this game, they're so apathetic about it.'

But, to be fair, all you can really tell is that most avid gamers haven't expressed enough interest in the game to buy a Wii U. That said, you could also argue that over 2/3rds of Wii U system owners also haven't instantly bought this game. The people who already own a Wii U are among the biggest Nintendo fans, so that's surprising as well.

Typically, 3D mario games have an ratio of 10-20% of the instal base in terms of sales. They also have very long legs.

Also, my OP was talking about current owners satisfaction meaning that a large majority of current SM3DW owners are more then satisfied with the game. Hence why I said that he was in the minority of people who disliked it.

I thought this thread wasn't a sales thread, OP?

Anyhow, it's interesting to see that your feelings towards the games have changed. World 1 was definitely not where all the action is happening, as with most if not all games.

I feel as though Super Mario 3D World does some things better in regards to Super Mario Galaxy/2. However, Galaxy is still the better game of the three. But something that many people seem to shove down others throats is that it's "NOT GALAXY, NO GOOD!" Of course it's not Galaxy, and that doesn't make it bad. At all.
