I think what they're trying to say is 'most avid gamers haven't even tried to play this game, they're so apathetic about it.'

But, to be fair, all you can really tell is that most avid gamers haven't expressed enough interest in the game to buy a Wii U. That said, you could also argue that over 2/3rds of Wii U system owners also haven't instantly bought this game. The people who already own a Wii U are among the biggest Nintendo fans, so that's surprising as well.
