Holy crap! I expected the Wii U to drop, but not this hard or fast. I was expecting sales to gradually drop over the coming weeks to a new norm of ~20K. It dropped to 14K in just a week.

Wonder if this means PS4 domination in Japan, now.

Take a good hard look at PS3's LTD, because PS4 will likely be even lower than that.

A console with 90% Western centric games isn't doing anything in Japan, they've gone portable, people need to get over it.

They'll have a good launch week I'll give it that, but sales will normalize to PS3 levels circa 2008 soon after IMO.

Of all three markets Japan is the least "hardware hype" sensisitive country, you gotta have a library of constant software that appeals to the demographic, and I'm just not seeing it.

------Last year-------Now:

3DS 100,501 ------ 65 657
WiiU 20,912------- 14 029
PSV 10,534--------- 31 382

I wonder if it will last for Vita.

It will, I think sales will rise with new releases and restocking of ffx, so you have that tetris game coming out next week i think, then dragon ball z, some other lite titles until the big on im guessing is j stars victory vs

I don't think J stars will sell that good, it's multiplatform and will sell definitely more on PS3 because it's a console-type game, and also the hype for the game is non existent as I can see. We'll have DBZ, Disgaea4 on the 30th, Terraria the next week, Valahalla Knights 3 Gold. And then the BIG Hatsune on march along SS Delta and the most anticipated one is SAO on April.

There is no saving the wii u, with both ps4 and xbone out, the wiiu will have a worse year then it did in 2013, and nintendo will have to pull the plug soon.

Simple, they love handhelds.  Home consoles, not so much.  They gave the Wii U some love during the holidays, but that's about it until a temporary spike when DKR, Smash, Kart, etc. come out.  I also think the PS4 will have a great start, but will eventually fade.

Wii U down about 33% yoy in Japan, still without competition. Where are all the people who kept making so much noise about the Japanese holiday sales being a sign of massive improvements and lasting momentum?
Super Mario 3D World, Wii Fit U, Wii Party U and a bunch of bundles did nothing to stem the decline, looks like I wasn't so foolish after all when I stated a 35-45k average global baseline for most of Q2 and Q3, could even have been too high.
Of course, with Mario Kart, Donkey Kong and Smasg Bros coming, there is no reason to keep on stating that several hundred percent increases yoy are impossible in 2014 (yes, quite a few seem to believe this will happen).

I think the Wii U will be up yoy, I don't see how it can't be with the 2013 numbers being what they are, but it won't be nearly as big a bump as most people seem to think. The huge titles will launch, hardware sales will spike, fans will shout in joy like they did with the Japanese holiday numbers and then the sales will collapse again and people will wait for the next spike. Overall though; it won't amount to much in the long run.

God damn, at the pace it is droping, Wii U will get outsold by the PS4 by the latter's Japanese launch, and my prediction of 21st March will be wrong stay strong until then Wii U!!! After that Nintendo can discontinue you or whatever.

Also Media Create drops Wii, but still tracks 360? Both should be dropped imo.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

PS3 14,845
Wii U 14,020

WTF, and people think WiiU will beat the PS4 in japan, wtf are some thinking.

i'm calling it now, there is noway wiiu will have a better year then then 2013, because it was a new hot product in 2013, launched with a huge killer app, and didn't have nextgen competition, in japan ps4 will also hurt wiiu sales, just watch and see, after mario kart and smash, nintedno has nothing which will sell consoles.

Ouch Wii U
