Forums - Gaming - Will Konami ever return to greatness?

Yes, with PSE pretty much turned terrible and metal gear solid slowly declining... Konami has nothing.

In the sake of fairness, i know they tried to re-hire the creator of the Suikoden series but he refused.

But its totally on them to have dissolved the Suikoden team and Silent team. Too late now... i dont think theres any hope for them. They made the same mistake as capcom by relying on outsourcing their big IP's to mid to low quality western devs.

Kojima's a name brand in and of himself these days. The only video game director anywhere close is Fumito Ueda, and he makes games at a trickle. Make MGS5 the last Metal Gear game (really, it should have ended with 4, if not earlier) and tell Kojima to make a different series and Konami has instant relevance.

Bonus points for telling Kojima to integrate stuff into gameplay and to be a bit more...concise. The chance for that to happen with MGS is about 3 games past.

There is but one game that could save Konami, a game so great that the gaming world would have a melt down if a new entry was announced

I totally agree.. A new  Blades of Steel would sell 2 million on each system and would put Konami back on the map.

They've been dead and past the point of no return game development wise for a few years now... They've made it pretty clear for all intents and purposes, they're pulling out of the game industry in favor of more lucrative ventures instead.

They already made this press conference:

How much greater can you get than that??

if they stop turning mgs in a shooter

It´s not just Konami. So many Japanese 3rd parties just 'lost it' during the 6th gen-7th gen transition.

Perhaps, it´d be a nice idea for a thread, to discuss the main reasons why that happened specifically during the transition from the PS2/GC/Xbox/GBA to the PS3/Wii/360/DS/PSP

Two of these reasons, I guess: Japanese gamers´ (sudden?) disinterest in home consoles and the start of HD development apparently crippling a lot of companies.

Yes, just as soon they promote Tak Fujii to Extreeeeeme President of Everything.

Isn't he dying?

I think Konami should stick to developing handheld titles. Give us a 2.5D Castlevania on 3DS and Vita, as well as a Contra. Make a new Silent Hill but make it PS4 exclusive.

I think it was a terrible decision to make Metal Gear V two separate games on two separate consoles, and the only way to get it physically is to buy it on inferior hardware. Put the same game on both next-gen consoles and make it physical. The sales would be much better.

They can return to greatness, they just don't know how. That's the problem with Nintendo too.

Don't say that!

I don't know his exact condition, but based on his Twitter activity it sounds like he's doing okay with his treatment.
