But linking wasnt the issue. Compile times were. I have a 96 project solution in Visual Studio that compiles in seconds. A game should not take long enough for you to make a cup of coffee and have a chat. As the UE4 video shows

Nano Assault Neo may not be a sprawling 20 hour epic, but the fact it was made by just 5 people, and rushed for the launch window, shows what can be achieved by talented individuals delving beneath the surface of the hardware.
They're not the only devs saying it wasn't all that agonizing to work with.
| sunK1D said: It was never about ease of development on the Wii U. It's simple business 101. Ever since Sony and then MS came into the picture, third-party sales have tanked on Nintendo "consoles." Why develop a game for a Nintendo console when chances are you won't even make your investment back? Handheld market is a different story seeing as Nintendo has no competition there. Vita? please, Sony needs to do a better job there if they want to compete with Nintendo. Third-party will sell on the 3DS because there isn't an alternative at the moment unlike the console market. People like to talk about the 3DS/Wii U mutually but their markets dynamic is very different. What works for the 3DS will not work for the Wii U due to competition. |
Its not just that. Nintendo has not always made life easy for third party even during the NES and SNES era. Nintendo deals with third party like they look down upon them but at the same time need their games and when they say jump, third party jump. When Sony entered the gaming industry not only did they offer a fresh approach to parner relations but they also brought a wider audience who they managed to stabalize. Sony alone is the reason why the gaming industry is 100+ million stronger than it was before them. Microsoft expanded that further helping bring PC gamers to consoles.

And if they had to make a 20 hour epic with multiplayer? NaN is a nice game but its quite short and has limited scope. The planets/cells aren't exactly large.

That's a lot to ask of just 5 people, however immensely skilled they may be.
Anyway, didn't that Chris Arnold fellow say early devkit problems were fixed by now?

You guys are way too sensitive. You think the production effort of a title like Muds is anywhere near the same level as any fairly complex 3D game? Most indie games are 2D for a reason. Its clear that the anonymous source worked on a launch title and I can't consider any of them to be as simple as a 2D side scroller thats on the Vita, 3DS and iOS |
I'm not sure what other thread everyone else is taking about (haven't been keeping up with this site much in the past few days), but I've been playing Mario 3D World and I can see what all the hype is about. The game is fantastic, and probably the most addictive game I've played in a while (and yes that includes the also amazing TLOU)... Also, it look great. Clean, etc.
Is it Ryse. No. But it sill looks great. Between this and games like Mario Kart 8, the graphics of the Wii U will be fine.
LMAO, lazy dev and early kits confirmed! I guess Nintendo fans aren't so delusional.
I guess we know why the other dev was anonymous. And the article should have stated that the problems the dev was facing was with early kits.
A lot of people took the other article as gospel about developing for the Wii U and called Nintendo fans delusional and in denial.

you certainly would run into different problems (like the anonymous dev detailed) and it would help credibility if he had a bigger game under his belt. I think you guys are too quick to assume this guy is the know all be all like the other guys are too quick to believe the anonymous source
LOL at the tagged game! Anyway a developer who shows his face is more trustworthy than an anonymus source.
I'm not discrediting the anonymous source entirely but it's certainly less credible now.
