Also, its not always about selling the most amount of units, its also about how much Nintendo will make per unit. So if Nintendo lowers it down to $200 and they are making -$100 per console vs breaking even with a $300 price point, then I think they are better off with $300 cause if the lose $100 per console, they have to sell that same person at least 3 retail physical games in order to break even (correct me if I am wrong) vs if they break even on $300, they can just make money from software sales |
Hmm, it might help sway some that like only a select few titles. I see what you mean though, it prob wouldn't move that many units in the long run. As for the second point, don't consoles usually get cheaper in their life cycle due to cheaper manufacturing cost or a change to some diff form factor? I could be completely off though. A cheaper price would most likely get more consoles out there even if they are taking a lost. More consoles=more software sold? I think the most important thing is actually getting consoles out there. A price cut to $200 seems to be unlikely at this point though unless wii u sales continue to tank.

Isn't the gamepad the only distinguishing feature of the wii u though? Without it, it is simply a slightly more powerful xbox 360/ps3 with a worse library unless you love a ton of nin games.

for me it would be a 4th console, ps3, ps4, xb1, so it would have to be about 100$ cause i would only get a handfull of games Mario, DK, and Zelda, but if a new Smash Bros came out i would bump it to around 200$ cause i would actually get a decent amount of use out of it.
as it is now, the system doesnt appeal to me other then one game
but if i were to buy it now i'd say an appealing price would be,
$200 for the system with game pad and 32 gbs
$250 as a bundle with a game.
However by the time i'm ready to purchase one im hoping its that price or cheaper.
Whatever price it is when the new Zelda comes out will be my perfect price for it.

Current SKUs for $200 (I already own one though, but I feel that is magic number; it has to be below an iPad Mini for general appeal, much like 3DS had to be below iPod Touch). A similar thing took place with 3DS.
$200 seems to be the sweet spot for it right now.
lower than 200 honestly the only game that i really want to play is Zelda and that will be a while still. I can take or leave the others.
The general population will buy anything that is hyped. If the Wii U had better advertisements and commercials, price wouldn't be such a factor. Anything below $250 including the Gamepad would be a huge profit loss for Nintendo. Wii U could sell 100 million, but if its sold at such a loss, sales are no longer relevant.
