Interestingly I am seeing the opposite trend here. There are less and less 3D sessions as cinemas are having trouble filling them. Personally I find it great that the fad is gradually reducing as 3D is a significantly less immersive experience to me and it was getting hard to get tickets to the constantly packed 2D sessions when they were less in number,
Given the choice 3D would have to 1/3 of the cost for me to consider it. At best it changes nothing, at worst it ruins viewing experience.
Bunch of friends wanted to see Pacific Rim in 3D and it was an unwatchable mess that I had to close my eyes a dozen times (specifically action scenes). Fortunately I bought it on Blu-Ray and sat at home enjoying it in glorious 2D.

Thats all I ask of out of anyone who hates 3D. And what do you think of 3D Sound (Surround Sound) ? |
I saw Gatsby in 2D and bought it on Bluray in 2D. I like Surround Sound because it adds to the experience without any drawbacks. 3D does not. The joy of seeing a few special effects popping off the screen is nowhere near worth the suffering of wearing those aweful glasses for hours.
If you hate the glasses;
Then what about 4K HD TVs & Nintendo 3DS (XL) ?
Because they are glasses-free.
Why come?

Hate 3D. Always gives me headaches during the movie. Last one I saw was man of steel and I was enjoying the movie but the headache was like someone driving a chainsaw down my forehead.
I notice that the OP provides no evidence to support his argument, so here is some:

Gravity might simply be an exception: http://variety.com/2013/film/news/box-office-gets-a-boost-from-older-audiences-seeing-gravity-in-3d-1200721603/
A new blue ocean for 3D, but will they come back for more 3D?
And nobody is watching 47 Ronin at all

Anyway 3D movies are still $3 more expensive here: $13.99 vs $10.99, IMAX 3D $19.49. And it's not even a 4K projector, still the old dual 2K digital IMAX setup. Screw that.
3D percentage still has more to do with the availability of both. 2D screenings are held back since 3D makes the theater more money.

My local theater that gives discounts 7 days a week for Mantinee & students, has 5 3D XTREME (IMAX imitation with 4K digital projectors) showings, and 3 regular 3D showings and 2 2D showings, and Gravity was the same way during the same number of weeks in Box Office, at this local theater.
To many movies came out in December 25 and 47 Ronin doesn't look like it can offer people something they haven't already seen.
I'm curious on how Legend of Hercules & Seventh Son (comic book) will do.
I think the comic book movie "I' Frankenstein" will do good, if not great in the box office. I personally want to see this 3D movie so much.
The ticket price depends on the theater, for example Rave charges the same for 2D & 3D now, but AMC is still $4 more for 3D.
I hope all the other Theaters in America fulfil their promise they made about reduces 3D ticket prices to match 2D ticket prices. They were suppose to all do this in 2013, but some still haven't done it yet.
