I'm in Ontario, and it's pretty damn cold here, too, even by our standards. Stay inside, everyone.

meanwhile warmest day for the time of the year since start of observations in 1833 here....
(12.7°C)
I live in Texas and it's pretty hot over here. I've even been riding my bike the last few days.
Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

For one, the cold during that year was not even comparable to this. It was just a generically cold winter. Obviously that will still happen, and I didn't indicate it can't. What I said is bogus is RECORD cold weather. In 125 years of data, records are very often there for a reason, and they very rarely get broken (especially temperature records). What I am saying is that if we warm up by (just as an example 2 degrees in the last 125 years), then a record cold snap now should only approach within 2 degrees of ones from back then.
Regardless of that, there are factors out there having FAR more impact than humans, such as sun intensity...hence why temps have been brutally cold in the past with like 4000ppm CO2. It really is quite ironic how scientists are trying to say that our whole climate is warming based on...50 to 100 years of actually good extremely reliable data (I realize we can extract data further back, but it is much less reliable), when our earth has been around for billions of years.
I know, I know, you are going to say how science shows all of this to be true blah blah blah. Yea, science also said that the earth used to be flat, as well as tons of other things we now believe to be completely insane.

Please. Global warming is very much a proven fact by now. What's debatable is the effect of anthropic activites on its acceleration and how it will manifest itself on a global scale.

No duh? Anytime an ice age is over, our the earth is going to be in a warming stage. That being the case, most people who would look at the patterns would also see we are very near or at the peak (given that the pattern that has been going on...for a LONG time...continues), and will start dropping into an ice age soon (fortunately for us, these take a long time to actually get into)

So if you agree we're in a warming phase then what's the problem? lol
So glad I live in Southern California. It was 77 degrees earlier today and about 60 now. It never rains and is always sunny.
To see an idea, here:
Here in Santa Barbara, CA I am 1 mile from the beach and 1 mile from the mountains. How jealous are you guys? Lol
I'd like to petition for permanent evolution, climate change, and general religion threads. Then mods can more effectively direct these topics to there to limit derailing current affairs threads such as this one.

This is how I'm supposed to respond to you, apparently. http://grist.org/news/how-to-respond-to-people-who-say-the-cold-weather-disproves-global-warming/ 1. It is winter. More specifically, it is January. 2. There’s a weird weather pattern that’s making it colder than it would otherwise be. 3. For advanced listeners only: Researchers expected a colder winter — thanks to global warming.
4. But most importantly: Weather is not climate. Even the first point works, even though this was written a year ago. And is thus written for different but obviously similar circumstances.
I rest my case, for it is tired and needs to sleep for awhile. |
1. It is the coldest it has ever been in January
2. The stratospheric warming happens with every super cold spell. Just like it happened for the ones in 1950, and 1900, and 1850, and 1800. To that effect, with a generally colder earth, stratospheric cooling would be expected to have a slightly worse effect back in the day (as one would note if they ever look at the warming charts, the worst cold years keep getting warmer, and the worst warm years keep getting warmer...with no real ridiculous exceptions where a year now will all of a sudden be ridiculously colder than it should be.
3. That specifically states they believe the polar vortex's are disturbed due to rapidly melting polar ice. So entertain me as to another reason for this year, because ice has massively increased in 2013 over 2012.
I mean, lets not even mention that climate reports are already coming out saying that heating is starting to decrease (it has actually been relatively flat over the last 15 years), and they are using as many reasons as they possibly can (outside of humans of course), such as increased ash, decline in heat from sun, even more heat being absorbed by the oceans (funny how they never say this has anything to do with the warming when it happens though).
3. The colder winter actually has nothing to do with global warming...at all. As mentioned above, that may well have been a partial explanation for last winter, but this winter is a completely different story. It has a lot more to do with sun activity, and other much larger drivers of our climate (humans are an extremely small driver, even still).
4. Climate certainly isn't weather. You can be in a perma drought, but still have a year where you get tons of rain. But it also has general effects on weather. If the earth averages 10-20 degrees (with 10 being the utmost extreme cold and 20 being the warmest ever), and over a million years warms up by 3 degrees...meaning you have an 18 average, the reality is you are NOT going to have a 10 degree year anymore. Ever. You will have 13 being the extreme cold, and 23 being the extreme warm (where 13 is still a cold year...indicating you can certainly still have cold years despite the warming...just not AS cold).
