In the Southwest USA we are having the 3rd warmest January in recorded history...

Britain would go bankrupt if we got that sort of cold here. An inch of snow and 0c is enough to close airports here!

I know it gets cold in some parts of the US but this is nuts. Niagara falls is frozen and yet it's raining in Fairbanks, Alaska apparently. So weird

We had a big snow dump last weekend, then back to -15c to -22c with 40km/h wind on top. The river next to our house is frozen and slowly rising. This should be the last day of the extreme cold, tomorrow it's going to warm up to -6c.

Now that it's Wednesday night, we're through the worst of it here. We weathered it so much better than the last time it got down (not when the OP is set, a little after that our pipes froze again and i didn't have a toilet for two days, though the second day i just off and went back to my parents' house). This time we attacked the problem by keeping a space heater in the crawl space for three days solid, and keeping the vulnerable water outlets dripping mildly at all times.

I am so happy to have no winter here (yet).. Cold/snow/winter I hate so much...
