Forums - Sales - Double standard with Super Mario 3D World and GT6...

WTF am I reading here?

installbase doesnt mean anything? WTF

2300 games vs 130? WTF you can't use that worthless comparison...

one game have an 1.8% attach rate the other have 20-25% attach rate

Seriously? If, IF one of these games is a "flop" it sure as hell isn't the one with the bigger attach rate...

The damage control have really gotten out of hand on VGC these last couple of years...but this...this...

You can;t have it both ways, the reaosn the attach ratio of Mario is so high is due to the lack of content on the Wii U, hardly anyone outside of a Nintendo fan would own one right now that's why the attach rate is so high. Both game under performed to expectation deal with it

Yeah... the Wii U just passed the Vita and is outselling it on a consistent basis... After 3D World came out... that's kind of the point.

BOOM! I don't know why people are even arguing that Wii U sales didn't increase at the time Super Mario 3D World came out.

The main question is, is it Mario, Wii Party U or holiday bump that's the biggest contributor right now and will it carry on into 2014? I think Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros will ensure a much stronger 2014 for Wii U though.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Well Gran Turismo 6 is selling on a platform that has 80 million users while Super Mario 3D World is selling on a platform that has 5 million users. There is kind of a difference .

GT6 has 2890 competitors on PS3 while Mario 3D World has 126 competitors on WiiU. This makes some difference too. And, unless people can prove me that the best selling games of a platform never come at the beginning, I will assume one factor counterbalances the other.

Just look at GTAV sales on PS3. It had slighly less competitors than GT6 (let's say 2800 games) but it managed to do 8,964,391 on the first week, a huge step up from the 2,479,637 done by GTAIV. Why? Because of the huge difference in install base between May 2008 and September 2013 (12.3m vs 78.8m).

So as you can see the number of games available on the system is not a big enough factor to counterbalance a difference in install base.

Can you think of any other examples apart from GTAV that have done better this year compared to last year? Cuz I can't think of anything at the moment.

I know that Assassin's, Battlefield, COD are doing worse.

The reason that people (mistakenly) call Mario 3d world a flop is because it did not help move many systems, unlike WIIU party (at least in Japan). A few weeks ago I also noticed the one year old 2d Mario outselling 3d mario in Japan. How's that not a case of a title underperforming?

People need to realize that this is a very complicated matter and simple comments like "installbase, dude" do not explain everything. The OP is right. BOTH are underperforming for being the two most powerful franchises that Sony and Ninty respectively own, but for different reasons.

Passed in what exactly? Because in total sales, we most certainly don't know that. If anything, according to VGC numbers wiiU is 2m behind. As for outselling it at the moment, it doesn't surprise me, as the vita is doing terrible, but I hope you're aware of the holiday boost that mostly ninty games and consoles tend to get. Things will porobably change in the following months (though vita might still be dead last).

A 30 million seller vs 10 million seller, we should look this way. Mario should sell console and go ahead of GT, that is what it should do.

Wii U is getting DK, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros and  maybe Zelda  this year while Vita is not even getting God of War  or something like that.. Wii U will pass the Vita in no time.

While I think from the post you just quoted it should be evident that I don't disagree with you, what I actually said was that A) It hasn't passed it yet (maybe in the us? I don't know) B) You can't ignore the holiday boost to explain the hardware bump. It might thus not be because of Mario 3d world.

Again, just so we're clear, I think the wiiu will do much better than the vita next year (but my point had nothing to do with that).

Also, what do you mean by "no time"? I'm geniounely curious to know.

I expect the Wii U to outsell the Vita as as soon as Smash Bros arrives which  is July- September most likely. Tropical Freeze and MK8 will help a lot and it would  be total murder if Zelda U comes out this year as well..

Ok, cool then. I see that happening too. I thought by "in no time" you meant something sooner. At least that's what I thought "in no time" meant. Anyway, guess we agree.
