Forums - Sales - Double standard with Super Mario 3D World and GT6...

Attach rate for both games:

GT6: I won't even bother
SM3DW: You get my point

I rest my case

Well Gran Turismo 6 is selling on a platform that has 80 million users while Super Mario 3D World is selling on a platform that has 5 million users. There is kind of a difference .

GT6 has 2890 competitors on PS3 while Mario 3D World has 126 competitors on WiiU. This makes some difference too. And, unless people can prove me that the best selling games of a platform never come at the beginning, I will assume one factor counterbalances the other.

Just look at GTAV sales on PS3. It had slighly less competitors than GT6 (let's say 2800 games) but it managed to do 8,964,391 on the first week, a huge step up from the 2,479,637 done by GTAIV. Why? Because of the huge difference in install base between May 2008 and September 2013 (12.3m vs 78.8m).

So as you can see the number of games available on the system is not a big enough factor to counterbalance a difference in install base.

Signature goes here!

Offcourse it is a double standard. Mario is always an exception to the rule. Always.

GT by comparison, fell from grace and no longer sells on name alone.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

GT6 is also selling to a much larger customer base -- so relative to that and the prestige of the series, it should sell better. Meanwhile Super Mario 3D World is expanding Wii U's customer base.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

i thought this thread would be the other way around. saying people calling Mario a flop and not doing the same for GT6.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

First of all, there have been plenty of doom threads about both so I don't know where you've been the past few weeks. And secondly, GT is very similar, if not more popular than 3D Mario games as a whole. Of course this isn't a 3D Mario in the traditional sense, but still.

Both have underperformed for reasons other than game quality so it's kind of silly to be upset about either game's sales TBH.

There's no double standard....

Super Mario 3D world is on a system that is in a sales war with the Playstation Vita.

The difference should be plainly obvious to... anybody.

Though... there have been more Mario 3D World is a flop threads then there have been GT6 is a flop threads.

Honestly, if anything makes the game look more like a flop in the forums, it's all the defensive threads like this trying to make it not look like a flop.

Of which... this is already your second.

If you want people not think it's a flop, you might want to stop putting that thought in their heads.

Nothing looks more supsious then somebody standing in the middle of an area shouting "I'm not this!"  When nobody said anything in the first place.

If you want to argue the point.  Argue it in a thread calling it a flop.  Otherwise it just looks like you kinda believe it, but don't want to.

i would put this thread in the selective perception category. for every gt is doomed thread people could find probably two mario is doomed threads.

but well, yes install base has also something to do with it. mario on wii u can't really sell huge amounts if there aren't so many systems sold. sure, theoretically it could sell as many units as consoles were sold but that is a little bit too much to expect.

Because GTA V is better than GTA IV. GTA IV had less area than San Andreas, no rural environments, less content (no bikes, no food affecting the body, no gym affecting the muscles, etc.), less sim missions (no taxi, for example), etc. GTA V has everything and much more. It's undoubtly the best GTA ever made and, because of that, it will become the best sold too.

Your logic is simply not valid. For example, GRID came in 2008 for PS3 and X360 (like GTA IV) and has sold 1,90M so far. GRID 2 came in 2013 again for PS3 and X360 (like GTA V) and has sold 0,44M so far...a series in the exact same conditions (sequels, platforms and years) and with the opposite results' trend.

Again, unless people can prove me that the best selling games of a platform never come at the beginning, I will assume one factor counterbalances the other. To give 1 single example (like you did) proves nothing.
