Forums - Sales - Double standard with Super Mario 3D World and GT6...

Mario is more popular than Gran Turismo, but GT games usually do similar numbers to 3D Mario titles.

For better or worse it seems that it will be the case this time around too :P

instal base is pretty irrelevant at this point of the generation.

Yep. Frankly, it would've sold just as much if not more were it a PS4 launch title. It's stuck on what many people are now looking at as a dead or dying system, where as 3D World is THE Wii U title  on an 8th gen console that is supposedly just getting started.

It's also important to point out that 3D World got far, FAR more advertising this holiday season while Sony practically pretended GT6 didn't even exist, understandably so as they had the PS4 launch to focus on and all.

Super Mario 3D world is on a system that is in a sales war with the Playstation Vita.

3D World was supposed to be the game that changed that. It didn't.

There's no double standard....

The difference should be plainly obvious to... anybody.

Though... there have been more Mario 3D World is a flop threads then there have been GT6 is a flop threads.

Honestly, if anything makes the game look more like a flop in the forums, it's all the defensive threads like this trying to make it not look like a flop.

Of which... this is already your second.

If you want people not think it's a flop, you might want to stop putting that thought in their heads.

Nothing looks more supsious then somebody standing in the middle of an area shouting "I'm not this!"  When nobody said anything in the first place.

If you want to argue the point.  Argue it in a thread calling it a flop.  Otherwise it just looks like you kinda believe it, but don't want to.

Well done. It seems deep down the opening poster really thinks GT6 is a flop since it´s doing comparable numbers to 3D World on WiiU.

1.55mil on a 80mil+ vs 1.3mil on a 5mil is a huge difference!

Beside you dont see all the doom threads for SM3DW? I dont kno why you have this comparison anyway, GT6 isnt a flop. And thats kind of messed up calling out SM3DW cuz of it.

Remember that when discussing 3DS vs Vita software sales ;)

But like you say, neither game is a flop. They just aren't selling as much as armchair experts anticipated. We don't actually know what Sony/Nintendo's projections for the games were. I'm still baffled by a game hitting over 20% of a consoles install base being called a flop in any shape or form though, especially also crashing through a million in a few weeks. Some people need a bit of a reality check as to what reasonable expectations for sales are.

... except for the fact that the Wii U is now outselling the Vita by a wide margin...

You can compare 3DS vs Vita because they are in the same generation of handhelds. They came out relatively around the same time. The 8th generation Wii U came out 6 years after the 7th gen PS3. 80million vs 5million install base is a humongous difference when they are only .25m apart.

First of all, what double standard? They both have had about the same doom and gloom. Do you just pay closer attention to the playstation threads?

Secondly, comparing a game selling to an install base 80 million to a game selling to an install base of 5 million is pointless.

You know you've got a massive failure on your hands when the best brag you can muster is "i-it's crushing the Vita!!".

How many consoles have had a worse second holiday than their first, anyways? Just the Wii U, Vita, Dreamcast, and Gamecube, right?
