The BIG difference I see, is a platform with over 500 games to choose from, lots of them, even just released for very cheap already, on the other hand there's a console with maybe 3 good games...and this one is pretty much THE single BEST one on it.

I doubt the quantity of software has such a major impact on GT6 sales as you claim. First of all, most of that software has actually been discontinued. Most stores, even the big ones, have less than 100 different titles on the shelves at the same time. Also, most of those games are not considered AAA-games in terms of quality or market potential. So in other words, the amount of games released for a platform prior to the last 12 months, have virtually no impact on sales of new software. There are other factors that have much more relevance. GT6's low sales are all about bad timing. The game was released in a period when all eyes were/are on PS4. In such a climate, GT6 won't stand a chance. The question is, did Sony expect these sales? If yes, then the game is not a flop at all.
When it comes to Super Mario 3D World, it's a slightly different story. Quite a large chunk of that game's sales could be traced back to a lack of other relevant high quality software for WiiU. On the other hand, increased hardware sales since the release of Super Mario 3D World, suggests it's much more than just lack of software that drives the sales Mario's latest installment.
It will be interesting to see how strong and long Mario's legs will be. If the next weekly sales report has him between 200 000-300 000 copies again, then I believe we might see Super Mario 3D World on the chartz well into Q1.
