Interesting to see how people ignore 3ds sales on these threads.

That little thing is just beasting. It beat every main brand combined that week and is just crushing its main competitor.

Hardly a videogame console sell that much in any given week. Amazing.

The great 3ds sales are mentioned all the time.

But it's not a 1:1 comparison with home consoles.  Handhelds are cheaper, the games are cheaper, and attach rate is lower than home consoles.  For example total X360 & PS3 attach rate are at 10:1 and 9:1, while DS is at 5:1 and 3DS is at 2.8:1.

So not to take everything away from 3ds, but if it were a console THEN it would be amazing.

It IS a videogame console. And it IS competing for the same hard-earned money videogame fans spend, even not being a home but instead a portable console. Specially now that the casuals are abandoning dedicated gaming devices, I do think that those are amazing numbers.

Yes, and as I'm sure you know PS4 takes a lot more hard-earned money, so comparing just UNIT numbers is not apples to apples.

OP: I expected a bit more from wiiU, I was expecting around 350-400k. But still good numbers. I was also expecting a bit more from the 3DS given that pokemon, MH4 and 2ds all launched this year, I guess paper mario SS gave the 3ds a better holiday then those 3 pillars lol.

And those vita numbers >.<. Being myself a owner now, I can confirm that this device deserves much more sales lol. I have no clue why it's not selling well in the west. I guess playstation fans aren't big handheld gamers?

Can't speak for other places but at least where I live if you're not 12 or under you certainly don't want to be caught in public playing a 3DS or Vita.  So why bother getting a handheld if you're just gonna play it on the couch anyway?  For some reason phones are socially acceptable though...

It's all about the game.

Still, both are videogame consoles and both belongs to the same market. Otherwise, we should have two separate VgChartz sites, one for home consoles and one for portables. That´s not the case.

If you're using how VGChartz presents things as evidence I think if actually goes against what you're arguing.  Otherwise why would the percentages reported for each platforms total sales be based off of home console or portable totals rather than the total of all platforms?

VGC does separate consoles & hardware graphs, but even if VGC collects & presents the data in the same way, that doesn't mean you should mix it up when doing analysis.

They are different market segments.  The target audiences are for the majority different.  Feel free to compare them sure, but you can't make a good argument about them without context.

It's like comparing 3DS June to 3DS December sales and saying "Woo look 3DS sales are up!".  Umm OK, but without seasonal adjustment you can't form a trend or call it good or bad.  You need a stronger base for your argument.
