I think Wind Waker is rotten.
So is Majora's Mask.

There are other reasons as to why wind waker sold less such as focusing on worthless puzzles that nobody likes but that goes along with the iffy art style.

i am questoning now if you even played the game

I'm pretty sure that rol acknowledges that puzzles are a problem in the zelda series. I don't remember anybody liking the water temple.

Apparently the puzzles in Ocarina of Time didn't keep it from surpassing the sales of its predecessors. Also, having played both Wind Waker and Ocarina, I'm pretty sure Ocarina had the greater puzzle focus, given that it had more dungeons than Wind Waker.

It's been proven before that Rol's preferences do not automatically equate to great sales. :/

I liked the water temple. It let me explore the dungeon and have to do so in order to get the keys to continue. The whiners are just zelda babies.

OT, Ocarina artstyle is the perfect representation of Zelda.

Didn't OoT have a realisitic style also ?

I don't think any of the 3D Zelda games are bad. I can't wrap my head around such an idea.

However, Majora's Mask is unquestionably my least favorite of the bunch. It features some of my least favorite dungeon and boss designs, and I wish it had more places to save my game. Or done away with it altogether. Either way is fine with me.

And yet, Majora's Mask is on my Top 50 Games list. Huh.

If my memory serves me correctly, it had cartoony character designs (exaggerated features and whatnot) and "N64 realistic" environments. But since standards were different back then, perhaps it did give off an impression of realism. Majora's Mask had more detailed... everything, really, but it didn't come close to outselling OOT. :P

Regardless, my point about puzzles stands. Puzzles aren't proven by sales to be an issue.

Probably...

Great artstyle can differentiate a great game from a masterpiece, imo.

This.

Indeed, and actually a few people I know who are Zelda fans actually loved the water temple because it was a challenge.

Nice to see you again.

But also not terribly surprised, since this is a thread about art design. Or, rather, it's supposed to be.

Wind Waker was a fun game, really great game. Still it or MM is my least favorite of the 3D Zeldas. Not because of the art style though, but if you want to collect things in the game, you do the same things over and over again. Once you've beaten the first dungeon, you've almost seen it all (except for some stuff towards the end, my favourite part of the game!)

Yep.

I would like to say that I don't care about the art style. However, I'd be lying if I didn't say that Wind Waker's graphics style just really turned me off personally. It was also all the sailing, and the story to me just wasn't that compelling. If the story and overall game itself had been great (to me), I would have gotten over the graphics.

But I would really honestly like to see a Wii U Zelda with graphics somewhere on par or better as that E3 demo. I think Wii U is totally capable of delivering a massive, epic, great looking Zelda, and I hope they don't hold back.
