Forums - Movies & TV - After anti-gay and Racist remarks, should Duck Dynasty be cancelled?

Would the majority of Duck Dynasty's audience even be offended by what that guy said? I mean their main demographic are conservative gun owners right? And no I'm not saying all conservatives homophobic, I just don't think most of them would care about these remarks.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Hope A&E drops his ass permanently, they sure as hell can do without him and they will come up with something to replace him.
The A&E brand and their wider audience don't need him.

This is complicated... My answer is no.

Honestly, if someone feels a certain way, I think they should be allowed to express it non violently (Ofcourse he is employed by AE, it's their choice on  what he's allowed to say while still being employed)

And imo, it's better that he says it instead of being a closet homophobe. Because it promotes discussion. If the public doesn't agree with him, they won't watch the show. If the public does, it shows other issues that society itself needs to address. Banning people for saying things they believe in doesn't make them stop believing it.

There's plenty of racists who are racist but cover it up with by acting fake or polite. When they think something else.

The man is entitled to his opinions and beliefs, just as A&E should be entitled to fire him.

"I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it"

All A&E had to do was release a statement saying the views and beliefs expressed by him are not that of the station. They totally botched the PR on this one.

I am Torgo, I take care of the place while the master is away.

"Hes the clown that makes the dark side fun.. Torgo!"

Ha.. i won my bet, but i wasnt around to gloat because im on a better forum!  See ya guys on Viz

I think the show should be cancelled, but not because of anti-gay and Racist remarks, but because the show is fucking stupid.

A&E and most media corporations just want to be neutral and not get their brands mixed up in controversy. And out of all things to publicly rant about this idiot decides to rant about the Gay and Lesbian community while employed for a massive media/entertainmet company that strongly supports the gay community...... lol....how dumb can you be? I guess they were not paying him enough..... lol

A&E is not attacking his freedom of speech they just don't want to associate their brand with his extreme opinions, his opinions supports hatred sanctioned by religion towards a community, this is very dangerous communications for A&E they have very little choice here.

Putting him on hiatus is the proper communication from A&E, they did the right thing for their brand, reputation and their business not to mention, to a lesser extent, they did the right thing for all the gay celebs that they employ present and future.

No.

Hmm, I do think it's fair for them to put the show on hiatus if the views of the show do not reflect the views of A&E, they are his employer after all. It's like a kid employed at McDonald's preaching to the customers about the wrongs of eating meat while serving them. I would believe that the show will most likely return with a warning before each episode like they do for commentary on Blu-Rays/DVDs. "The views of this show do not necessarily reflect the views of A&E"

If an employee says something that could detrimentally impact the bottom line of their company, said company has every right to pull the plug. It's called running a business.
