I voted yes. There's no harm in at least trying, especially if you like Nintendo.

If I were you, I'd play Link to the Past on the SNES or Wii Virtual console first. Ocarina of Time is best played on the N64 or especially the 3DS rather than the Virtual Console, and is arguably the place to start with the 3D games. LttP is probably the best 2D game, establishes a lot of the series conventions, and does a decent job setting the tone for the non-3D entries in the series.

Why not Virtual Console?

Probably because the controls will feel much more native that way.  Just guessing on that, though.

I just found that the N64 Zelda games control a bit awkwardly on the Virtual Console. It's not terrible, but considering how great the original N64 controls and especially the 3DS controls are, it's well worth picking one of those versions up, even at a price higher than $10.

It's a blasphemy that you even have to ask!

You are only missing out on what is arguably's the industrie's greatest franchise in its history.

Yes, but start with Ocarina (or LTTP if you prefer 2D games in general).

Agreed right here.

Ocarina really sets the 3D bar (Majara's Mask must immediately be followed) whereas ALTTP is the perfect non-3D entry (haven't played A Link Between World yet).

Link Between Worlds is less obtuse than LttP could be at times, with subtler design hints to show you what you maybe should be doing without overt handholding (though the option for that with the Hint Ghosts), and a warp system available very early on, but they emulated the playstyle of LttP remarkably in terms of combat flow.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

ALBW proved itself being very addictive. Fantastic dungeon design, epic bosses and amazing soundtrack.

You don't own a 3DS right? With a Wii compatible GC, start with Wind Waker (unless you plan to get a Wii U down the line and get the HD version) or Twilight Princess. I think those are pretty good entry points, Zelda TP having some of the best dungeons in the series, and Wind Waker have some good ones as well and being my overall favorite entry in the series.

I wouldn't try Skyward Sword till you try one or both of those, and I definitely wouldn't try OoT and especially Majora's Mask on N64 (through Wii VC) before trying at least one or two of the aforementioned games.

Twilight princess its on my Amazon wishlist ($20). I might be getting it for Christmas.  And I'll probably be downloading A Link to the Past pretty soon.

Zelda was my favorite franchise between the SNES and N64. Though after moving on to new games I found the game too slow paced the characters annoying and the reading the dialouge boring. It feels like a psuedo open world game that never gets it all right. If you did not like it before I do not think you will like it now.

Edit: Twilight Princess is the worst Zelda I have played.

Yes, start with 1. And id suggest skipping twilight princess.
