the scary part is, the 2DS was $99 for black friday, and ppl expected that to fly off shelves..

and didnt it fly? 3DS sold around 1,2 million units WW in the black friday week, for sure 2DS helped its sales.

I'm really not sure what Nintendo can do at this point. Drop the price again? Pack in like 3 or 4 games per console? Their options are limited.

Dump the tablet, price collapse to $199.99 and let it all ride on Mario Kart 8 next spring. Bundle the thing with Wii Sports Club + Mario 3D World, shift the marketing towards it being "Wii 2".

That's pretty much it. They honestly may have to start thinking about a new console, something that's powerful but cheap R&D wise (basically a AMD graphics card in a box).

They've built the entire system around the tablet, it's not going to be easy for them to just get rid of it.

I don't think they have a choice any more. The consumers have spoken and they are largely rejecting this idea and it's crippling Nintendo's ability to drop the price. They need to let go of it, no sense in jepordizing your entire console division because you wanted to let 5% of Wii U owners doodle in Miiverse.

Good thing the library right now is fairly small too, the sooner they do it, they sooner they can patch the firmware and past titles.

yea.. a 15% increase with new hardware and a price of $99 is flying off shelves?

Also after this fiscal year, Iwata needs to remove himself from his short stint as head of NOA. He should not be managing the American side. Get someone who freaking understands the US market to do that.

Maybe that was the ploy all along? Iwata promotes himself as president of NOA, knowing there's a good chance that if numbers go sour for the holidays, he can then offer shareholders a "symbolic" resigination from NOA at the year end fiscal briefing ... but really he just goes back to the position he had before.

I'm afraid of buying a WiiU now, not gonna spend 300 dollars on a console that might get slashed pretty soon. And Nintendo acts as if nothing's going on.

Seriously, Wii U is now officially being Dreamcasted. They might want to carry on the console for 4 more years with terrible losses or just give up on the Home console business. Unless miracles happen, that's the only 2 options they have.

9 million Wii U sold during the FY, 1 Billion operating profit and the HW forecasts predictions will fall short so badly (Wii U will be lucky to sell 4 million on the FY), and serious consequences will arise from that during the shareholders roundtable for the end of the FY. Won't be surprised if there are resignations en masse, or if stocks drop to abysmal and scary levels. Won't even be surprised if there's physical violence during the presentation, to be honest.

Nintendo probably let their only chance to recover fly past. Farewell.

Lets be honest, you were never going to buy a wii u :)

Omg did you just imply the guy with the tri force avatar is a nintendo hater

The younger generation has been taken over by smartphones and tablets.. This affects Nintendo first but will lead to a new generation of kids who won't get into console gaming at all affecting Sony and MS later on..

Says a lot of things:

Nintendo as a brand has beyond peaked in its biggest market.
Mario fatigue has set in, hell nintendo franchise fatigue has set in
Nintendo still hasnt sold its original prediction of 5.5 million Wii U's
2DS is looking more and more like a mistake

How is the 2DS a mistake?

Because, at least to me, its having a dual negative effect on what nintendo orginally designed it for.  Its cheapness is sacrificing margins for marketshare gain that is barely there.  They would have been better off lowering the price of the original 3DS.   Probably wont find out until their report but im sure they made more money last year than this year (Wii U bigger sales, no discontiuation of the 8GB, more sales of higher price 3DS and XL as opposed to the 2DS,3DS and XL mix)

I only have to think back to a few months ago, and the 220,000 Wii Us sold doesnt seem so bad :/

Working with a lot of assumptions here. You have nothing to proof what you just said. Unless you know the internal financials of Nintendo, and know their financial reasons as to why they release the 2DS or even how much profit they are making out of the system.

No reason to mentioned the 2DS unless you had a solid proof.
