How huge do you think the show is?

Is not about size, is about type of viewers.

Then the viewers got something better than they deserved.

Funny how we talk about the type of viewers who watch the VGAs when its the big gaming forums (like this, NeoGAF, and more) that actually have a strong reaction to it.

I'm pretty sure this was iwata's idea, just like DK game. Reggie is just a puppet. We are now dissapointed, just like they will be when they see holiday sales. Yeah, but let's ignore the Wii success and announce shit nobody cares rather than Zelda/Metroid/3DMario like the Wii announcement that everybody was hyping, let's 2d the 3D mario series because there aren't other 2d mario options on the console, let's delay games.

Play Mario 3D World, damnit. It'll stop your complaining.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Poor Reggie, what a shame. Althought, I sometimes find myself thinking about buying a WiiU from time to time, if some extra money come in, who knows...

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I'll probably get for holidays. Already seen part of a walkthough. Not impressed honestly. There have been games that make me want to buy as soon as possible (ALBW), and games where I say "I can wait to play" as 3D World.

But will those viewers appreciate that better something? or will they just dismiss it and not pay attention to the console again? that is why is important to match the announcements with the audience, the idea is to generate hype and sell consoles, not show something good that will not have any impact at all.

I hope Nintendo made the decision to show Cranky Kong instead of a new trailer since this was the VGA's. I'm going to now side with the story of Nintendo not wanting to taint their own games by showing them off at the disappointment that is the Video Game Awards/Whatever X stands for.

That seems about right.

To be honest, if they'd shown anything new or unexpected it would have been out of place on the show, which was pretty awful from start to finish.

I don't doubt Reggie knew exactly what else was going to be shown before he booked in to appear at the event. What they got was some free marketing to a crowd in which there still exists a percentage that will be interested in DKTF. Those people are not the same people who watch Nintendo Directs. This is just a timely reminder to the mainstream that DK is out soon.

Finally I wish people would stop acting like VGX is the be all and end all event that it clearly isn't. If Nintendo want to announce new games it's likely to be via ND and then with more mainstream coverage through E3 and the other shows that actually matter. All of that is for nothing if they release games to market without advertising which is hopefully a lesson they have learned over the last year or so.

I know what they were thinking.

"Hahahaha, old Apes are funny"

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Leading with DKC isn't a bad idea but at a "awards program" where the biggest draw is showing off trailers of upcoming games or announcing previously unannounced ones, plus probably paying for the time it takes to do said announcement, that to be the only thing you are show casing to a market that has grown to see your games as stale due to their traditional nature... that was pretty weak and something of a waste.

They would have gotten more positive buzz had it been a Nintendo Direct or at a media event but for that particular stage to be their big reveal of Cranky Kong being playable it really does lend to belief that the executives in power just don't get the industry's standard type of gamer.
